Going off on a tangent here. But just reading about a doctor in Paris last week.

Was giving CPR to someone, only to discover it was one of the attackers. ****ing wires sticking out.

I think they're going to lose a lot of public support if they still strike and unfortunately it makes the government look good. What Hunt hasn't done though is agree to talk about the entire issue, he's said from the outset that certain matter are off the table for talking about (like hours, changes in pay, changes in qualifies as anti-social working, etc.) and agree to talk only about everything else. What the BMA should do is agree to talk with ACAS and call off the strikes and if, as the BMA are expecting, Hunt then still refuses to talk about the entire issue (which he has stated innumerable times he will not as he said some matter were "off the table") then re-arrange the strikes.

Hunt is just much better at playing the media and the BMA are going to come across as unnecessarily militaristic. Silly to still strike until Hunt has proven to be false on this.

ps. the staffing in hospitals will be better than when we were given a late "bank holiday" for the royal wedding a few years ago and I didn't hear anyone complaining then!!

Aye these b***ards know how to play the media - and the media seem to "enjoy" being played! anyone would think that the senior management at these media outlets went to school or even lived in the same street as Cameron and the boys <whistle>

Guy goes to the doctor's and says "Doctor, Doctor, I've got a cricket ball stuck up me arse"

    Doctor says "how's that"

The guy says "now don't you start"

Guy goes to the doctors wearing a bowler hat. Says "doctor, I'm really worried about this,,,," and takes off the hat.

On his head is a wonderful minature meadow, with a tiny stream and trees.

Doctor says "no need to worry, it's just a beauty spot"

    Am here all week

Not trying to be big headed but i wouldn't get out of bed for that. TBH i think we should question the level of intelligence of a doctor that would work 70+ hours for 23K !!! Wtf a manager at a Burger king gets that!

Fair play, for many it's the only job they ever considered going into as it is more than just "a job" and that's why the comments made by Hunt have really wound them up (calling their professionalism into question, suggesting they haven't really got the fact correct or bothered to check them properly - my wife almost hit the roof when he said on a tv interview "I would urge these doctors to actually read the changes we've proposed" suggesting that they hadn't bothered so far).

There is good money to be made in many areas and that is the motivation for some (tied to the fact it is about as secure and recession proof as you get) either by becoming a dispensing GP (I don't know as much about this other than I believe you are talking in the region of 70k to 100k in your young 30's) or a hospital specialism in which you can do plenty of private practise where you can double your wages to 100k-150k though only once you've got to consultancy really.

My wife is in paediatrics so there's no private work and nights and weekends are the norm up until retirement. It varies per sector as a doctor and you make your choices knowing what to expect so it's churlish to complain about that too much :)
