Yeah I think that suits a smaller budget.

We're never going to be able to identify who needs the help the most so as long as we can all agree that it's going to people who need it more than we do, I'm happy.

Is there anybody on this board who actually bloody lives in Sunderland? <laugh>

Obviously nobody expects anybody to donate money that they need mate, if you're not in a position to help financially it's cool, maybe you could help identify a worthwhile beneficiary?

Being able to capture the spirit of Christmas is the objective I guess, more than anything else :)

No I didn't mean that mate. I meant how can we identify the person or cause?

Why not put it to a vote? personally i'm all for helping the aged or ex service (people). No charities, just a single person who we could help at this time of year and maybe put a smile on their face, restore faith in humanity, that kind of thing.

My old fella is in a home with Owldtimers/dementia and there's loads more like him in the same home and other homes, but they're taken care of. I'd rather see a single old person who's sat in a one bedroom flat with **** heating and no family, or worse, maybe homeless, or some veteran who's served Queen and Country but fell on hard times cos the country turned their backs on them.

    Just my humble opinion.

I'd maybe start by brainstorming on here over the next few days, maybe ask the local Sally Army if they have any injured / struggling ex-forces lads in their digs, maybe somebody on here will know somebody personally who could do with some unconditional support.

Bang on. That's my thinking. I would love to make a difference here to a vulnerable 'forgotten' person/family.

Again mate a great cause, possibly harder to identify these sort of people without knowing them personally mind.

This is the same sort of class you lot showed to the two Newcastle fans from MH-17... You can take the man out of the North but you can't take the North out of the man.

Just a thought. We should come up with an idea soon. We all have our own ideas on what constitutes a good cause and we might end up with a thousand ideas. Often, the first few ideas are the best.

Taking advice from the Sally Army could be a great move. They'd certainly be one of those selfless groups best placed to advise and may already have someone in mind along the lines of TJs first thoughts.

I'll do a bit research. I'm not in touch with many ex forces mates anymore.
Does it have to be somebody from Sunderland as many of us don't come from there?

I've chipped in to that & will be happy to do so again but I think Terry was more on about some poor bastard that's on the streets or living in a hostel.

    sound...
I'm down for whatever like. Especially if its for an ex serviceman regardless of country. Lots ****ing braver then me , nuff respect.

Im in the states and they (servicemen ) are a little more conspicuous (hats and badges etc), but i often will buy them a coffee/pint/burger. There is one lad who looks suspect as **** but never begs the tourists or asks for **** from anyone, just tootles along in his fatigues (fatigued as **** btw). Once a week ill buy him a pack of tabs and a meal from the local boozer. Don't know his story, but have heard from other vets he is legit, awarded the purple heart from his tours in Vietnam.

****ing horrific how servicemen are treat tbh! Not being military affiliated or anything like that many find it strange how much time i have for the lads who sign up.... brave as ****

Good sentiment mate but half the time it wasn't bravery but an escape from the dole cue monotony of Thatcher's 1980's Britain.
That's the only reason I signed up.
