http://m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/8653832 Awesome and the best way to deal with the odious katie hopkins lol
Why was Katie Hopkins invited in the first place? I'm happy to see controversial views debated on virtually any subject, but what has she got to contribute on basically anything? She's making a living out of saying stupid **** and annoying everyone. That's Michael Owen's job.
Nobody else likes him so someone has to. In all seriousness Cameron should have appointed him as the Government's Foreign Secretary as Hammond is clueless and extremely lightweight. In addition he would have been invaluable in renegotiating terms that are acceptable to the UK remaining within the EU.
That's what i was thinking and mirrors my opinion. Dont want to see her banned - although sone of the things she says are against the law and incites racial hatrid. But as long as she doesn't repeat anything like that... But the only reason to invite someone like that to an academic institution is to crwate controversy, rather than to stimulate an interesting debate.
You're not missing anything. She's a failed reality TV contestant who now writes a column in a newspaper. She's the Murdoch empire's equivalent of a 4chan troll, who just says anything spiteful and nasty for attention.
I think that she's intentionally objectionable though, whereas he's just a complete twat. I'm not sure which is worse.
Yeah I know what you mean it's shocking to know someone actually believes awful things but then Hopkins says things like comparing refugees to cockroaches just to get attention is probably even worse - though both are scum!
This is what the rest of the Students' Union could not understand. It was meant to be an event to celebrate the institution's 50th anniversary and we invited a professional wind-up merchant to speak about the welfare state, of all things! As you can tell, the general consensus was that people were not overjoyed with the news and felt that the entire event would be focused on her, rather than the main purpose for having the debate in the first place. There was speculation that the Vice-Chancellor, Julia Buckingham, wanted to raise the profile of the university and that's why she was invited, but of all the people to invite for a celebration and genuine debate, I'm not sure why university staff thought that she would be the right person. All of this has actually overshadowed the academic debate about the Kardashians today, which I am somewhat pleased about. I have no idea why this happened: http://metro.co.uk/2015/11/17/brune...ademic-conference-on-the-kardashians-5508830/ The video of the Katie Hopkins walkout has nearly half a million views, though! And it's been reported by two major news news broadcasters - Sky and BBC. All in all, I'd say it was a pretty effective walk-out.
Students I'd imagine. At least it seemed to me to be recorded by the students involved on the protest
I was actually trying to say that I was the one who recorded it. Originally I was going to do the walk-out, but SU President asked me to record it just before we went in. Didn't expect it to blow up like that, though!
Fair play to you. Great job. And i thought you were called brunel gooner for your twin loves of arsenal and suspension bridges!
I can't believe that as well as inviting hopkins they did a study of the kardashians as well! Whats your uni doing?
