No doubt we'll all be putting up Modus in steveo's comp but up against him is a horse who put down the most incredible bumper performance I have ever seen and warrants utmost respect here. Emma Lavelle's See The World had his 1 and only run in a bumper at Wincanton in January and looked to be crusing to a comfortable victory coming off the final bend when Aiden Coleman had problems with his tack and lost control of his mount entering the home straight. The horse basically pulled himself up. Having sorted his steering and sensing place money might still be up for grabs, Coleman galvanised his mount and he absolutely flew up the straight to make up 30+ lengths on McCoy's Lincoln County to score going away. Heavy ground too, which bodes well for tomorrow.
Yes Morky. VALUE AT RISK is going to be top drawer over fences. I am going tomorrow to Newbury and hope/expect to be wowed. The Don and I know the owner quite well as he had a horse with Charlie. He is a smashing guy, an owner breeder, and deserves fully to have such a wonderful beast. I cannot wait to see him in action and cannot recommend him highly enough. I am a big fan of Native River but cannot see past VAR. great card at Newbury tomorrow and I have some interests elsewhere too. I expect to see PROSPECTUS 1.55 Southwell give the Buzz form a bit of a boost and at Taunton the latest BGHTF horse is running, STAR TROUPER 1.10.
Good luck with Harristown once more Don. Hopefully he starts taking an interest in these fences fairly soon
Still one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen. Those in play numpties must have done their entire conkers that day!
Tellovoi 5/1 Southwell 3.05 - a quick reappearance for this lad after it all happened a bit to quick for him here over 6 furlongs on Monday, running on well to claim 2nd. The return to 1 mile is right up his street and he's still feasibly treated here. Mick Appelby has current fave Philba in here also who finished a neck in front of Tellovoi 2 starts back but this time Tellovoi is 3lb better off for a neck defeat to that one and should reverse the form. There are a few other ones lurking, but have questions to answer over course, current form etc. So Tellovoi is a reasonably confident selection to finally score from a lenient perch.
Get on value at risk tomorrow. Only risk is might be too fresh. Been smashed to bits but still huge in my eyes at 11/4. Absolutely all over this one so fingers crossed
Happy birthday Ron old chap and also good luck Don with harristown hope he comes back safe firstly and with a bit of luck some prize money too
Perhaps the most fascinating race of the day is 2.45 at Newbury, a novice handicap chase. Warriors Tale makes both his chasing and stable debut for Paul Nicholls, having been trained by Nicky Richards. Won two and finished 2nd on it's last 3 starts. Fourth Act won comfortably at Carlisle last time out, and as a full brother to Hennessy third Theatre Guide the step up in trip should suit. Nitrogen has raced just 3 times, won a point then finished 2nd and 4th in two maiden hurdles. He's a half brother to Best Mate and another horse making it's chase debut. Double Shuffle has run well in it's last two races, both novice chases at Cheltenham so cannot be discounted lightly. African Gold has the best novice hurdle form in the field as he finished 2nd in 2013 Albert Bartlett at the Festival. But although his chase form figures read 4FP, question is will he put in a clear round of jumping today? Aigle De La See is another Nicky Henderson trained French import who finished runner up 3 times in a row over fences. Alan King trained Chosen Well is a point winner who won two novice hurdles last season and had a wind operation.
A very happy birthday Ron (didn't mention it last night as I always think it's bad luck to say happy birthday the day before - one of my silly superstitions)
Morning, morning. How’s everyone on the campest forum in the Isle?!? I would be amazed if PROOFREADER doesn’t win the 2 mile handicap hurdle at Taunton (2.55). Runs off an incredibly low looking perch of 110 and you can guarantee that in his first run in a handicap, over sticks, the hand brake will not be applied. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more... Proofreader’s opponents don’t look the greatest bunch ever assembled and current quotes of 4/1 appear more than fair to my eye. Good luck, pilgrims.
I have a sneaky fancy for an outsider in that race Barney. Mystery Drama 33/1 Placed three times off marks in the 120's when with Alan King and the new yard has only taken two outings to get him down to 108. If he isn't actually too regressive he looks stonking each way value today!
That race is so trappy, even the Dartnell horse could be suggested on its run at Nottingham. I'm off ill today, so I might get to watch a few races. The Novice Chase looks a really good heat.
