What did you make of him bringing Young on for Memphis (fair enough, Young was better in that position), but then moving him to right back (when Darmian had looked pretty good going forward and had no problems in defending) to bring Mata on when Rooney was just a total waste of a shirt?
Schweinsteiger off was probably for Leicester. But yeh, hampered us big time. And the players lost their resolve. It was quite obvious treble. Each and every one of those players is a highly paid professional footballer. Stop making excuses for them.
Yeh I agree with UIR here, I'm pleased Lingard is in the team. Yeh, his first touch is frustrating but he's a kid and he shouldn't be held accountable for our overall performance or the result. He's played well enough, offered enough overall to be given further games. There are only 2 positive things I can happily say about Van Gaal. One is our defence and two is that he's giving our youngsters a chance... and a fair chance as well mostly.
Young started well. A common theme it seems. After 5 minutes he went to **** though kudos for controlling the pass from Blind (also a great pass) and creating a chance, which shouldbhave settled things. Bar that and those few early moments, Young was poor. Darmian had been poor from the off imo so Young ending up at RB wasn't to much of a surprise. Rojo offered better support on the left than Darmian on the right. Rooney, I was hoping he would get so deep he would end up in the crowd.
To be honest I'm not that sold on Schweinstieger either. No doubt he's a good player, but you'd expect more from a guy who's achieved what he has in the game. He's obviously come here for the 240k a week that Bayern won't pay him, and I get the feeling he's not even that interested having already achieved everything he can do internationally and with Bayern. It seems like he's using us like an MLS club, an easy place to get a sack full of cash to take into retirement
Posted this at the time of the two subs. My thought was Young on for Depay. Bring Mata on for Lingard. OR take off Depay, move Martial to the left and put Rooney up front, and put Mata behind in the number 10. Ofcourse the simple solution was to take off Rooney for Mata but he's never going to do that so I don't even bother considering it anymore. Really can't explain what he did with Young and Darmian tbh.
There's a huge difference between us when he plays and doesn't IMO. His worth is underestimated and while he's not tearing up trees he brings more out of the players around him by just being there. Tonight he wasn't good but you saw how inmportant he is to the side. Had Carrick or Herrera been available then no doubt they would have come on instead and we wouldn't have fallen apart, forgot how to play and done nothing for 40 minutes
I was thinking more of the mentality of bringing on a sub then completely changing his position after 10/15 mins, wouldn't it have made more sense to sub Darmian for Young (if he thought Young would be better there) and save the other sub for someone who could make a difference (Mata earlier) ?
Look at how often Rojo got forward. Compare it with Darmian. That's why. Didn't make the slightest bit of difference though.
Like I say i don't dislike Lingard or have a problem with him playing in general. it's more just who he was likely picked ahead of.
Young had become stagnant after his good start. Like the whole team so it really didn't matter tbh. The worst second half performance under van Gaal. For the first time I didn't feel like we could get the win. Usually we have the ball and are camped just out side the oppo box and I always feel we will nick something, even if playing poorly. Not tonight.
Mate it was a pointless second half. Should have shaken hands at half time and spared everyone the trouble. Everything about it. Even PSV fluffed every decent chance they got, some of their final balls on the second were laughable.
Yeah, but he brought Young on for Memphis then had some strange idea that he should have brought him on for Darmian instead because we needed a better right back not an attacker.
If Carrick was available, I'd have him all day long over Schweinstieger, as atleast Carrick actually takes risks with his passing. Schweinstieger plays the easy pass to often rather than the more rewarding but riskier one. I think our best 2 is Schneiderlin and Carrick, with Herrera playing further forward
There were 25/30 minutes between Young coming in and Darmian going off. I actually thought we were going 3 at back tbh.
Nah, BFS for me. Games like today show why too. Its fair to point out that with Carrick and Herrera out, and BFS and Schneiderlin starting, options for midfield are short just now. Blind is an option but with Shaw out, were being stretched. BFS likely went off with Leicester in mind tbh.
