Well he is a young player with more than touch of class. His,well not detractors as such, everyone seems to agree he does have it,always point to the fact he doesn't fancy a tackle. But there are also people bemoaning the loss (imminent) of Jimmy Bullard and how he is our only creative midfielder. Jimmy doesn't tackle though does he ? Robert Koren doesn't tackle. They are creative midfielder's,and many players of this ilk are same.In an ideal world, they would do it all, like players such as Rooney,or Lampard. But for me,Cairney should be given a start, game in,game out.Maybe he has taken the criticism on board, from the manager, coaching staff,i can well imagine Barms having a word. That's their job. Where was Bullard when he was 21 years ?
Agree with what you're saying, if JB does go then he is probably a better option than Koren to be the creative midfielder in the centre. I've never really understood the criticism of Cairney, he does seem to get stuck in plenty enough to me and I've never noticed his infamous lack of pace as some have. Just a thought, his form deteriorated quickly when NP took over, perhaps for some reason he jst preferred playing under PB or found it easier for some reason.
I know it was only North Ferriby but he did look class against them, the main problem was he looked very light weight, and he didn't seem to have enough time on the ball and his mind was not as quick as someone like Koren to pick the right balls. He does need time playing and no doubt he will get it this year hopefully.
I heard he's a bit of a big time Charlie. I also got told that if he made X more league appearances for the club he got a wage hike. However I agree in principal from what i ACTUALLY know (which is no more than anyone else on this board).
The was a big difference between Cairney in the Premiership and the Championship, that was time on the ball. The premiership affords players more time on the ball, the championship doesnt. I am undecided on Cairney, he is a good player, but i think we were too quick as fans to build him up on his performancing in prem. However he needs to be quicker with the ball at his feet. I would like to start with him and McKenna, changing to Evans if he fails to provide the creative streak.
Play a 3 man midfield -----Mckenna Evans---Cairney With Stewart on 1 wing, Brady on the other and Fryatt/Simpson through the middle.
Guess im just a bit worried he'l playing a staring role for someone else after we sell him for 200 grand, and go on and play for England/Scotland !
No it wouldn't. However I can't see us playing McKenna and Evans together, I see a 4-4-2 with Koren McKenna Evans Brady Fryatt and Adebola as the most likely midfield and attack at this point.
I think you are spot on with the midfield, but I'd be surprised to see Dele start, I'm pretty sure it will be Simpson or McLean
People are convinced that Adebola will be used only as an 'impact' sub due to his age. But Deano played all season in 07/08 and he was 39 by the end of it, so there's no guarantee that being old and starting games are mutually exclusive. Based on how we lacked a target man last season, and how well Dele and Fryatt linked up together at Ferriby, I'd go with Dele at this point.
The problem I see with young Tom is that for a lad of his age, he just isn`t that mobile, which means that he has to have the speed of thought on reading the game, and from what I have seen he hasn`t got that either. Very good when given space and time to think about things, but will he get that playing in the hustle and bustle of the Championship.... nope. In our second season in the Premiership teams had started to work him out, and were closing him and dithering George down quickly, causing misplaced passes, and being caught in possession. While he does have a cultured left peg, I just don`t know if he would be able to step up to the challenge, hope I`m wrong.
When FIT (Won't count in Bullard/Olof) Gulacsi Rosie, Chester, Hobbs, Dudgeon Stewart, Koren, McKenna, Brady Fryatt, Adebola/Simpson
Cairney instead of Koren?!? A man who has captained his country and played starring roles in West Broms promotions. I don't understand why everyone has such a problem with Koren in the centre, especially if you're guna play 3 in the middle.
Considering the options we now have(and Stewart's not available), I expect our starting XI to be: Gulacsi Rosie Chester Hobbs Dudgeon Koren McKenna Evans Brady Fryatt Simpson
Think I`d be happy with that OLM, with the option of bringing the big man Dele on with 20 to go if needed
4-4-2 is an outdated system. QPR won the league playing 4-2-3-1 which is an adapated version of 4-3-3 with 2 deeper midfielders and 1 pushed further forward. Swansea played a simliar system. Barcelona play a similar system, Real Madrid play a similar system, Inter player a similar system, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City play similar systems. 4-4-2 is ****.
