Busquets is a class act, but he's playing in a side that have 70% possession most weeks and possesses the best strike force on the planet - thus most sides sit off them and show little attacking ambition - which makes his task somewhat easier.

Tackling is in itself an art from in the game Jimmy. A quality challenge from a DM can be as influential in a game as a 30 yard strike into the top corner pal..........

You're absolutely right - tackling is an art. But Lucas winning the most tackles doesn't mean he's good at it.

His tackle win percentage is 41% which is low. When you make as many tackles as Lucas does, you're inevitably going to win more purely because of the volume. The percentage adds more context as to how effective he really is.

Matuidi, Coquelin and Matic are in the 50's -
    Funnily enough, Busquets is 44%.

So you're 100% right that tackling is important - but for a DM and defender, it should be a last resort.

I hate stats and you may notice I never quote or get involved with discussion about them. I've always taught my lad that when on the pitch you should be influencing the game no matter what position you play.

I agree to some extent - I'm trying to dispel the myth about the stat on the number of tackles Lucas has won. It's meaningless.

Every stat in every game is meaningless unless you've just got 3 points.

I'm not mad about stats but they do raise some interesting talking points. For instance when a player has been called lazy but the stats have shown he's covered more ground than any other player. You can say 'so what' but it is interesting and it could make you look at that player differently in the next game. If nobody was keeping count you could think we'd had fewer shots or corners or whatever and yes, none of it actually matters but like I said, it's good for talking points.

and .... 8/10 fans said their stats preferred it.

He was talking about Mangala and Sterling.

  10. I suspect Diego knew that but is implying that neither cost near that when excluding the additional extras. IE; he thinks Man City want them to fail

Nope, just wondered how a manager could make two players from another team look mugs. Surely that would be down to their own manager?

  12. So you don't think a manager can set his team up to target individuals on the opposite team?

(not saying that was the case or not, just responded to the quoted comment)

I don't think so. Who was the 'he' he was referring to? All astro did was put forward two players by price tag who wouldn't like Klopp. [in answer to Jimmy's 'who wouldn't like Klopp']

You've completely missed the point. Jimmy said after watching that video of Klopp with the little lad 'who wouldn't like Klopp?' Astro's reply was two players from city. Nothing to do with looking like mugs.

Of course a manager can do this, it is then up to the opposition manager to compensate against it so his players don't get over run.

Two payers with specific positions and price tags who Astro thought had been to look mugs by Klopp. The only players Klopp can make look mugs are those in his own team in which he has none that fit the specifics given <ok>

  18. So a opposition manager can make players look like mugs, gotcha <ok>
