Watching Barcelona should be obligatory for any aspiring footballer, coach and manager. A pass is hardly wasted, there is always someone to pass to, their movement is wonderful. Cannot say any more!! I suppose there is always their antithesis - Chelsea!! So if Chelsea meet Barca, I know who I will cheer on and I would hope those who love the game feel the same way.
You're right about their movement. I'm sure many footballers would also benefit from sitting in a classroom and learning about angles, because so many put themselves in positions that are nigh on impossible to pass to. This causes the player, on the ball, to delay passing, which enables defences to re-organise and tackles to be made. I saw it happen far too often, Saturday, v Stoke.
Sadly, if you did some kind of survey, you'd get told by a huge number of English fans that they are boring to watch.
Brian Clough was often critical of his players giving the ball away, and tried to inculcate into his players the value of keeping possession. He would have loved the present Barcelona.
I think many a Saints fan and pundit alike, really enjoyed our passing game as we came out of League 1 and then the Championship. Didn't we often see a passing move of 20-25 passes that sometimes resulted in a goal?
The Juventus stadium announcer just welcomed Manchester United to Turin. I'm sure the City fans would have appreciated that.
Brings to mind Sampaoli's quote the other day, after Chile had 73% possession in losing 3-0 to Uruguay: “One night, I went to a bar, I was with a woman. We talked all night. We laughed, we flirted, I paid for several drinks of hers. At around 5am, a guy came in, grabbed her by the arm and took her to the bathroom. He made love to her and she left with him. That doesn’t matter, because I had most of the possession on that night.”
It's all about context. Didn't look like Roma did much shagging to me last night. They did get well and truly shagged though.
Champions League is back and Man Utd are in danger of going out. Current score is Wolfsburg 2-1 Man Utd. They need to win this one or if they're lucky a draw will do as long as PSV don't win. About half hour to go. Man City also losing 2-1 at home and need to win to top their group.
