10 years today since he died. Anyone able to fill his boots playing now?

    Not a hope in hell.

"If you'd given me the choice of going out and beating four men and smashing a goal in from thirty yards against Liverpool or going to bed with Miss World, it would have been a difficult choice. Luckily, I had both." George Best.

Well we all know Messi is as good, probably better, but he's nowhere near as likeable, so, NO.

There'll never be anybody to fill his boots, there'll be better players, but he was more than a player.

^^^ That of course is the answer for Tez. Best was brilliant, world class even but he didn't do it for very long and his reputation's inflated due to him wasting his talent and becoming a cult figure.

I ****ing hate Callum best by the way. He seems to make a living slagging his old man off.

I wouldn't say he wasted his talent, he just never wanted to stay in Manchester, playing football. He preferred ladies to most things and he enjoyed lots of them, it's only a waste if he thinks it was a waste.

Ten years for United is a good stint, then he wanted to see the world, he'd shagged all the girls in this City <laugh>

Cantona was the same in a way, his life was more important to him than football.

I've got a photo somewhere of Best's grave.
Buried with his old mam back in Belfast.

He always said he had two mums, his real mum and his foster carer when he first come over here.

Nowadays, somebody like him, arriving at 15 or so from overseas, would just buy themselves a mansion and move their entire family over.

That's the part I miss, we're not gonna get lads who learned their trade banging balls against garage doors anymore, they're swept up long before then and they are wrapped in cotton wool from an early age, then end up crying for their mummies when things aren't 100% like Raheem Sterling, spoiled little ****.

Roselawn cemetery mate, he's in the same hole as his mam.
Ironically, she died of alcoholism too.

My favourite player as a kid. Everyone in school wanted to be like Bestie.

Gotta be honest though, when i saw the thread title, footy wasn't the first thing to come to mind.

I thought it was either about drinking or shagging Miss Worlds! My bad :(

Nope. Stopped shagging Miss Worlds when I got married mate. The missus insisted! Didn't think it was an appropriate hobby for a married man!

Players from his generation weren't as fit as they are now. He'd be just as good today as he looked in the old TV footage. I saw him play a few times at OT when Chester had an away game and he could be astonishing.
