Are next 4 games are Palace away Liverpool home Spurs away Villa home. If we don't take 6 points from these games, McClaren needs to go, and unless we have a great run before Dec 19th, if we lose vs Villa, he needs to go. Palace are on a bit of a bad run at the moment, and were beaten by Sunderland yesterday. We should really be aiming to win this, and also Villa at home. If we don't, it's time to say goodbye to the PL if no change is made.
I can't see us picking up a point before Xmas. If we are bottom by then there is no alternative. He simply has to go.
Knowing us we'll probably lose to Palace and Villa but beat Liverpool and Spuds. No? Right enough - we'll lose to them all!
1 to 3 points max and that's off Villa. A vicious circle is about to hit SJP again.... team heads drop... slip goals.... fans beel..... team heads drop more.... slip more goals.... fans beel louder..... One things for sure... if we are cut adrift in January a lot of fans will just say... '**** it'... and spend their hard earned money on more important things. Fat Mike should realise this.. and understand that you can only kick a dog (the fan base) so many times before it goes into hiding to avoid further pain and torture.
I'd say we need 3/4 points out of the next three games. If not sack McClaren off and let someone come in vs Villa and hopefully they can kick off with a positive result. Usually I'm not for sacking managers but he said it himself its 2 steps forward 3 steps back currently and that's not good enough. How you can go from performances that really got me thinking we where on the right path vs Norwich, Sunderland and Stoke even Chelsea and City (45 mins) before that to being utterly useless vs Bournemouth and Leicester? What changed in the players minds and the coaches setting up the team?
Ah the old Sunderland card shuffle to get the new manager boost. Good thinking. Then we swap again before the derby?
Haha nail on the head. Honestly though after the Villa game on the 19th there will be 12 days before the window opens, 2 matches and Xmas so any new coach even if they come in straight after the Villa game they would have little to no time (probably 10 days) to see what the players are all about in training. I'd rather give them an extra week to have a look and see what they think needs changing as its obvious to us but someone new will have a lot of dross to organise.
It would make far more sense to change the manager before each game until the end of the season. We could end up in the Champions League places if we did that.
Who would we be able to hire who would be better ? I seem to recall many people thought that sacking Pardew would result in positive developments. That hasn't worked out terribly well (well, except for Palace, for whom, it has worked fairly well so far)
This. McLaren hasn't got the results yet but this all takes time. Anyone expecting a brilliant start to the season just hasn't been paying attention to what was happening for the last 2/3 years. The players brought in in the Summer are as a group better than what was being brought in for that last 2/3 years and it takes time to get the "losing" mentality out of the Club and the players. The football being played is of a better quality in the main than last season and given time and further players of the quality of Mbemba and Gigi then things will improve. It takes time but how many thought Williamson would be out even at the start of the season. Plus Fredd's point, who comes in? Anyone want to make a sensible and realistic suggestion?
The football isnt better, we are retaining possession in a more defensive area and Mbemba, Tiote, Anita can pass it amongst themselves until the cows come home, its not going to hide the fact that defensive rentention of the ball is not attractive. nough times we got hold of possession with 3 or 4 leciester players out of position or higher up the pitch and the passes we played were not direct enough. We didnt attack quickly enough at all, the only game we did was against Norwich. McClaren should probably go on Sat evening if the result and performance are poor. If a quick appointment could be made then its perfect, the new man in charge has a month of assessing the team and preparing for january, ready to get all business done in the 1st week of the transfer window.
Who though? We have played better before the last two games. The last two games are a massive worry though. We are paying the price for not picking up someone like Cabaye (ie Cabaye) but the players who came in, with the exception of Thauvin so far, have been a step up. Howvere, it's no good if they are going to be draged down to the level of everyone else. We need to see a step up in attitude on Saturday with players not going missing. The foundations are better, but the attitude needs to change asap.
Without wishing to be pedantic the football is better than last season especially the second half of lat season. It might not be good but that doesn't stop it being better. As No Chance has just said who is likely to come in. No point getting rid of McLaren and just getting Carver or his like back!
Not sure who Thauvin is better than and Mitrovic is looking more like Riviere than Shearer, as for the quality of football possession is nothing without an attacking intent or threat, they shaded the possession against Leicester and lost by 3 goals, didn't even manage a shot on target, if that's progression and quality football in Tufty's world then I need some of that Dutch happy baccy he must of brought back with him.
