I can give you a list if of my experiences you like My son (a very nervous flyer) reminded me the other day of when the plane was struck by lightning on take-off from JFK. He told me (later) that he kakked his pants, but (apparently - I don't remember) I was fascinated by the glow on the plane's wing (St Elmo's fire?) and kept asking him to look at it. I wondered why he drank so much on that flight!
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/isis-teen-austrian-poster-girl-223840097.html#dp8UmiU Austrian girl who joined IS reportedly beaten to death for trying to leave. I vaguely understand boys going because they probably think its a video game, but have never understood girls going....obviously completely unaware of what life is like for a woman out there. Hope they give this maximum coverage (if true), but sadly she won't be the last silly kid to get drawn into it.
I like a bumpy ride, and still get pleasure out of explaining patiently to my wife that turbulence was just like potholes in the road, was effectively holes in the air and that the plane dropped into them...she thought about it so hard cos she knows I tell her porkies for fun that I don't think she noticed the next couple of massive plummets down, or sudden rushes back up to correct altitude. She was still scared, but distracted. I like to watch the other passengers panic, as I sit there all smug thinking that a: it's just turbulence, and b: even if it's not, there's not a damn thing I can do, so why worry. I'm a horrible person to sit next to on a bumpy flight
Desperately sad As you say, they should give it maximum coverage to prove to these silly brainwashed girls that there's no life out there for them!
Life's not always great for Muslim women anywhere in the world. For some (certainly not all) young Muslim girls their options are pretty limited even if they grow up in the west; their families may be lining them up for an arranged marriage to a man she doesn't know, who will regard her as his property. So the idea of marrying a holy warrior riding around the desert on horseback waving a Kalashnikov can become a compelling fantasy.
I still wait to be sitting next to the attractive young lady who is scared of flying. Then I will definitely be praying for some turbulence
In my job, I have had meetings with aircraft manufacturers about materials to dissipate lightning strikes... the facts and figures make you do a double take!!
This is a must for a conversation over a beer or three, I think!! BTW - Thanks a mill for the book - arrived just now. Looking forward to reading it next week!! Cheers!!
You sound like the best type of person to sit next to. I was on a flight with some woman freaking out the entire flight, like seriously losing her ****. Worst thing was this meant her kid was also freaking out big style. If you're that scared either don't fky, or at least suck it up so your child doesn't inherit your irrational fear. The two of them made it hell for my wife who was sitting in front of them. Some people are so selfish it beggers belief.
I don't understand it either because we are both rational sensible human beings, but remember how young girls believe the tosh boys tell them all the time. These will be the same girls who 'fall in love' with on-line stalkers and stay with abusive men. Archers Road may be right saying they have limited choices at home as well...and they have been brought up to not question stuff too deeply. Perfect fodder for groomers.
I think the ISIS recruiters are pretty skilled at online grooming. President Obama described them as a bunch of thugs with good social media skills. Lots of teenagers fantasize about escaping to an alternative way of life. Throw in fear and distrust of parents and teachers, and there's plenty for the terrorist recruiters to tap into.
I know that the Web allows you access to wonderful information, but it also exposes you to complete tripe....and as we all know tripe presented by youngsters on line beats facts and sense presented by adults every time. Spotty fifteen year olds are so wise.
Utterly ****. There was only one question that I got wrong that I'm slightly irritated by as I should have got it right! The others....umm.....
