With the potential signing of Kenny Miller coming our way adding to Mason and Earnie. Should we play 2 smaller quicker players or play 1 with a target man?? The Beast struggled 2night, his touch and pace to the ball were poor so will Rudy Gestede be the answer??
I know it was friendly, but Parkin does appear to be too slow. Some slow players do seem able to get into the right place at the right time due to awareness but I am not sure Parkin can do this. I still believe that if we sign Miller, Parkin may as well go. As you say, maybe Gestede can play that role. He is 6 foot 4.
Have you heard much about him Siam?? Can't find much about him on tinternet and didn't see the Charlton game. His goal was played on the big screen at half time yesterday but didn't show much else, looks very much like Betty...but can he stay on his feet !!!
When did Parkin make runs down the wing? Maybe its to get his fitness up but he will be playing a central role when we get our final strike force.
Parkin is a target man BUT his interpretation of target is as in archery. Stand still and hope the ball/arrow hits the zone. For such a big guy he is so easily knocked off the ball and his touch was very poor last night. I think he got nose bleed when he had his first half chance - he couldn't believe he had so much space and then blasted wide instead of going low and hard for the just inside the far post - as strikers are taught to do in that situation - one of Chops assets. Okay he was a back up for Bothroyd last season hence his regular bench warming - and it was handy to have a big guy covering the front of the 6 yard box in defensive set plays - but we surely cannot consider him starting in anymore than a handful of games when we have no other options. Both has gone but last night showed how valuable he was to us in holding the ball, holding off defenders and allowing our other players to move into space. Parkin simply does not have the ability to do that. Celtic fans do not rate Loovens but he, and then his replacement, had Parkin in their pockets apart from his one chance. Looks like our bid for Miller has been accepted so down to agreeing terms. I guess we will walk away from Goodwillie now as we will have 2 box strikers in Earnie and Miller. We need an alternative in terms of a big guy so there could be an opportunity for Gestede if he wants it. That must be in doubt as he buggered off back to France after the Charlton game. If keen you would have thought he would have stayed with the squad for Celtic.
I'm not concerned about a target man as I think that style of football is not what MM is about, on the floor, quick and precise, with Miller coming in, I'm thinking him and earny will be our taget men. Bothroyd went off injured last night.
What!!!!! Were his shorts dirty? However, I would still wish he had stayed with us ---------- with his form of the first half of last season.
A lot of great players have left Cardiff (most) have our best wishes for thier new club. DJ and his players are the past, MM and the new boys are the future.
I hope that Malky will have a plan B, so although I'd like to see Earnie & Miller together a tall centre forward is needed other than Parkin.
Gestede the French lad is somewhere between 6' 2" and 6' 4" depending on which website you chose to believe, apparently he put himself about well in Seville and MM is said to be "interested in talking to his people" whatever that means
The sad thing is your right, loved by the fans, just a shame he hasn't quite got the form we look for going into the new season.
They showed his goal at half time but very little more, would have liked to see at least a few mins. Took the goal well.
Sod this target man rubbish, that just means a big lad we can hoof the ball too and hope for the best. If we are playing that style of football after getting rid of DJ I'll be very annoyed. Ball down play it football is what we want, need and what I think we will see from MM and his new boys
I knew Parkin wasn't up to it from last season let alone this friendly match. I guess Mackay is finding out for sure and last night was probably another discovery exercise for his squad.
When Parkin played against us for Preston, he caused havoc, and made a right mug of Loovens, Last night Loovens had him in his pocket, just our luck
"Sod this target man rubbish, that just means a big lad we can hoof the ball too and hope for the best". Well said. You lot need to change the way you play, ditch the 'hoof it to Jay (or whoever)" mentality and you might actually get somewhere!
Why don't you go away? go and play with the caravans. Talk to a proper jack supporter, if you can find one but don't keep coming on here interfering in things.
