Ever since Lucas became a regular, we have been finishing mid table. Funnily enough, we finished 2nd a couple years back ... And he wasn't involved.

Anyways - Lucas isn't a big problem for me.

He's doing a decent enough job but he's not worthy of this praise. We've come to a point where players are being praised for simply not messing up. Someone like Lovren will be lauded for putting on his boots the right way around, and Milner being praised for simply running around and working hard.

We're better than that and with Klopp here, our expectations will also rise. In summary - Lucas is doing a job but needs to be upgraded.

Hamman is knocking on a bit so I'm going to put Lucas ahead of him.

Yes, we had arguably best midfield in Europe at that time when he joined so wasn't at the same level. When he did play it meant that he looked out of place because he wasn't as good as those around him. We then lost that midfield and he was expected to just replace and be as good as which was never going to happen. We've still not replaced Alonso or mascherano 4/5 years later...

Its ta like someone coming tin to replace Suarez. No matter how well they do, they'll never be as good as so are already in a tough position.

How many has he lost? He's won over 5 a game so far this season, far more than any of the other 'top dms' you mentioned. Now if he's won 5, how many has he lost a game? Even if he a lost 3/4 he's still winning 60% which if others are only winning 2 tackles a game, if they lose 1 then only have a 60% win ratio as well...

Yes tackling isn't everything but id rather he be winning those 5 tackles a game... If we put someone like neves in the team then with the amour he has to make his ratio may not be so high either.

The he others mentioned are playing for the best team in their league bar us (and magic this year) so dominate possession and don't actually need to do as much defending. Biscuits is quality no doubt but most of his game is spent passing because teams really break on Barca and attack them in the same way they do us.

Weird that Klopp has taken him from not being in the squad to a vital part of the first team then...

Sorry Jimmy this is a nonsense sentence and is in fact just a stat not telling the story behind it (sound familiar)

how many goals did we let in the year we finished second? So obviously that DM playing instead of Lucas was top quality eh? :emoticon-0138-think

Or is it Lucas fault Suarez no longer plays for us and Sturridge is always injured?

Can we get better of course we can? But your refusal to accept he has played well under Klopp is mean spirited and just plain wrong.

I guarantee you that DM isn't Klopps main first or even second shopping spree. And if not does that make the mighty Klopp or mighty Jimmy wrong?:emoticon-0105-wink:

<applause><applause>.Steven Gerrard was there both of the times we finished second. You cannot make Lucas a scapegoat.

I agree with you - I much rather have had Lucas instead of Gerrard that season. But I just find it funny how Lucas rarely gets s look in our best performing teams ...

You're completely dismissing Busquets by saying he doesn't defend that much. I see your point by you're ignoring how the Barca defence Is and how aggressive they are - they should be so exposed and vulnerable to counters but they're not - because Busquets is a master of positioning. The way he presses opponents or forces them into an area of the pitch they don't want to he in - that's the art. It's defending without even touching the ball or man.

  11. Lucas, Mascherano and Alonso played a similar amount of games so surely Lucas formed part of that midfield too?

As I mentioned too much is being focused on individuals, Lucas does a job and does it well, he is building a good understanding with Can and allowing the younger lad to get forward and focus on another of his strengths. We need to understand that the system is king with Klopp there is always an opportunity to improve personnel but like someone mentions Lucas won't be first on the list to be replaced. I'd welcome a young DM to push him and to learn his trade but there's no point looking for such a specialist player when we have a perfectly good one in place it's not as if there are loads of brilliant DM's out there.
It's the same all over the pitch nobody not even Lovren needs to get the boot as a new manager and new system may get the best out of them.

Time to just cheer the lads on I think and look at all the positives other than arguing about which Liverpool player should get the boot, they are our players after all and I'd like them all to do well. With this in mind I'm staying out of these conversations as I think it's a product of some difficult seasons under Rodgers and we should leave them in the past and get back to blind faith.

Allen in with Lucas suspended and I expect a performance from the lad as he's a ****ing legend.

  13. Players are small cogs. The form partnerships to make medium cogs. The team is the large cog.

The aim is to have a big cog, this can only happen with lots of medium cogs <ok>
