Cleared up once only because we had to pack all the books away while work was being done. Just decided not to put them all back out
Sadly no surprise , but the Russian Crew were shot dead as they parachuted down . Maybe a small blessing for them .
The Syrian state news agency says the Turkish downing of the plane shows they support terrorists, the Chechen leader says Turkey will "regret what it has done for a very long time", and the 'rebels' have also blown up a Russian rescue helicopter. Meanwhile the US say the pilots of the plane were warned 10 times on an open frequency but they are still working out where the plane was. In view of how WW1 started I'm off to hide under my duvet until they've all calmed down
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...s-The-Smiler-crash-caused-by-human-error.html The terrible accident at Alton Towers has been found to be due to human error after a safety device was turned off. This is often the cause in factory accidents as well, sadly. I do wonder if people comprehend with such rides that there will always be a risk whether the fault is human or mechanical. You can't hurtle at speed through switches and turns without their being a finite risk....they will never be completely safe. I would never take that risk and offer myself to fate just to have the thrill of nearly dying....each to their own I suppose.
I hope you never thrill to the excitement of crossing the road. As I pointed out recently to the current Mrs Onionman, you're more likely to be killed crossing the road than many other ways of dying. She looked at me rather quizzically and said, "Not if you look both ways". Vin
Same here. If I am going to take calculated risks I do the calculating. Hence why I can happily ride a motorcycle or drive a car or sail a boat, etc... Statistically, they are more dangerous, but at least I'm in charge of my fate, to some extent. The times when I do hand over control is to transport, for example, train, ship or airliner. But one does this out of necessity. I have been on a rollercoaster, but I wasn't hooked by it.
I think there's risk for a purpose...like crossing the road or travelling by car/plane etc and something solely for pleasure, but I am also a miserguts
I absolutely hate flying, I don't like boats or being a passenger in a car either. At least in a car you can grab the wheel if the driver is looking the wrong way when he shouldn't. If you see me on a plane I'm the pale sweaty one who doesn't say a word the whole time the plane is in the air and is counting backwards from 3 hours! (and occasionally one of those weirdos who cheers and claps when the plane has landed)
