Town have been linked with a loan move for the Fulham 'keeper, with Martin Jol talking about a deal being on the cards and his hometown club Leeds also interested. Stockdale impressed when Schwarzer was out and he is undoubtedly a Premier class 'keeper. If we can add him and sign another centre back then suddenly we have a back five that no striker will fancy playing against. Fingers crossed.
Nice theory Yorkie but what happens when Schwarzer gets injured and Fulham recall this guy? PJ stop pissing about and actually sign Scott Loache from Watford!
Stockdale is a first rate keeper. Most of us on the Fulham board would be happy to see either him or Schwarzer start this season, but also happy for Stockdale to go on loan for first team action. What we - and I think I speak for all of us here, although I'm always wary of people doing that - don't want is for him to be sold. Most of us would rather part with Schwarzer earlier than necessary in order to keep Stockdale. If he goes to either Leeds or Ipswich, he will do a fine job for you. For what it's worth, we've also signed a new back up keeper from Hungary. If Schwarzer got a minor injury that was only going to keep him out for a few games I suspect he would play. Stockdale would only get recalled if Schwarzer got a longer term injury or if the new boy turned out to have teflon gloves.
JWM what we need is to throw as much at this season as possible - get the Bullards and the Stockdales in on loan, you can think about cherrypicking players when you get into the Prem. There's no reason why Schwarzer should get injured - we might end up with Stockdale playing half the season or more. Stockdale is not just any keeper - he would by a long distance be the best 'keeper in the Championship.
I'd be happy if he went to Ipswich. What's more, they are down my neck of the woods in a few weeks so would be able to watch him in action against Bristol City
We're mostly hoping we don't need to use him, but he comes highly rated. Jol had him on trial when he was at Ajax, and then gave him a trial at the Cottage before offering him a contract, so he's not going into the deal blind. But I'm quite happy for people to poke fun at our third choice keeper - we're very happy with numbers 1 and 2.
Us Leeds fans have been following this rumour for quite a while and it looks quite promising for us. I can't really see it happening for Ipswich. We know that he isn't going to be going on loan to a Premiership club, Jol has already said that and he isn't going to be sold either. So that leaves the Championship. Both him and his wife have said that whilst Premiership football would be the better option, a return to their home town Leeds would be nice and that. His wife said that she would look forward to a return back home to Leeds, and we all know how persuading the missus can be sometimes.
Bit of a non-story really. I suspect there are other areas that need strengthening far more urgently.
Well Jol said they were speaking to a few clubs - we are clearly one of them. Leeds look favourites but if he does join Town then it is a major coup. I was surprised that Schwarzer got his place back because Stockdale really was every bit as good.
Fair enough, no offense taken - my lack of knowledge of the championship to blame. I'd wish you all the best for next season, but Mrs Captain's family are Norwich fans and if word gets back to them that I'm fraternising with the enemy...
Hate to put a spanner in the works, but apparently the swans are trying to buy him for £2.5m as the loan move was turned down for us. Don't know if it's just idle speculation though
Nice one! As for Swansea's bid for Stockdale. We turned that down a week or so ago. I don't think Jol has any intention on letting Stockdale go anywhere other than on loan.
