Gabriel would be a better option than chambers imo. He's quicker and more mobile ... If we're going to play a CB in that position.

Ramsey / Gabriel pairing anybody ?

Only with Arsenal do we always have to find ourselves scrapping from the bottom of the barrel, Flamini....Chambers? Chambers who has never played DMF, now a supposed contender to come into a side that supposedly wants to win the league? What a joke. A team that actually wants to win the league has proper solid world class back up, not a past it player like Flamini, and a young CB who isn't even a proper defensive midfielder.

Or play a back 5 with Gibbs and Bellerin as wing backs?

Or actually sign decent back up players so we don't always have to find ourselves in the same mess? :D Now there's an idea.

But we can't sign anyone at the moment. What do we do in the mean time?

Surely having a team in an injury crisis without a manager abd rudderless would be even worse... Unless bould is the new guardiola!

There's never a good time to change if you're someone who doesn't want change.

Arguable, but there are probably better times than in the middle of a season, outside of a transfer window and in the middle of a injury crisis. I do have to say though that im more confident than ive been in a while that we will really kick on when wenger leaves and our squad is strong enough now that wenger should step down in the summer and announce his intention in the spring.

Note: previously i could understand calls for him to go but I think regardless of pf his performance, we would have taken a step back as we'd need serious rebuilding.

Wenger never breaks a contract, he will be here for the duration of his contract.

I would go all out for Javi Martinez at Bayern Munich. Or is Carvalho back from his injury?

I'd presumed you knew it was ironic ...

Anyway, I didn't really intend the thread to be another Wenger bashing exercise, although I agree it was completely negligent not to sign a DM in the summer. My question really is what solutions do people think we should employ now, seeing as moaning about it isn't one of them.

On the contrary, bashing Wenger is particularly therapeutic. He is a grade A moron without enough qualities to manage a club with our resources and deserves all the criticism he gets for the stubborn decisions he foolishly makes again, and again, and again, and again.

Discussing what we can do without our first/only choice DM is pointless. We have Flamini (rubbish) and Arteta (rubbish). Our options are rubbish. We can't sign anyone. Our title challenge is over. We'll finish 3rd or 4th and everyone will delight in giving Wenger another season next year to prove his worth, get frustrated when he doesn't sign the necessary players in Summer 2016 then we'll get a spate of threads like this next year discussing 'how do we cope for the next month or two now xxx is injured and we negligently didn't sign a backup... ooh Jimmy Smith can do a job... he's been no good up to now and helped us achieve nothing of note but he'll be able to come in and help us achieve our goal'. Blah blah blah.

This cr@p is discussed year after year after year. We replace our minority of top quality but injury prone players with other substandard injury prone players as soon as they get inevitably injured in order to limp through to another CL qualifying finish and do it all again next year... with just enough victories and rays of light to keep the Wenger-defenders happy and moderating this board.

On this occasion Wenger should get a bashing for not having adequate quality in the DM department. But who are we fooling, we know that Wenger histoically deems this position as less important and it's the one position that has seen us become a stronger unit since Coqs has started playing as a real DM.

All that we can hope for is damage limitation and for Flaminis lack of quality, he is the only real choice. The rest are just theoretical.

People might not like what he is saying, but fact is, Cini is spot on. The buck stops with Wenger, and it's the same shovel of **** every single damn year, with the same problems, and the same discussions.

Yes, the buck stops with Wenger. That's why I mentioned it in the OP, but the thread is supposed to be about what people think the solutions are at this moment in time. Just repeating 'It's Wenger's fault' isn't really a solution.
