To talk about building a team around Maguire is barking mad! He's a good honest player but too slow and ponderous in defence to give me any confidence. He has a role to play for us this season in the Championship but I would much prefer Bruce to him for the match v Derby.
Has any team ever built a team around a centre half? Why would they? To build any team around a Smalling, Cahill, Jones, Hunter, Adams, Butcher, Terry, Wright, Ferdinand, Thompson, Moore, McFarland, Campbell, Charlton, Watson, Southgate, Hughes or any other centre half would be, or would have been, ****ing stupid. I was simply highlighting your argument that Maguire doesn't have the proven experience to play a top of the table game is massively flawed.
Have to agree with those that say he will go with Huddlestone. I would go with Chazz's team if it was me.
Re the first bit - I was responding to Bojacks comment re building a team around Maguire. I agree with you that it's a stupid idea. As for the second bit, there is no flaw in the argument - it's a statement of fact that Maguire hasn't got the proven experience.
One way would be to go out on loan to a team that doesn't have the strength in depth that we do. I'd prefer it if he didn't so that he could remain here as our 4th choice Centre Half.
Just my opinion but I think he has more ability than Bruce Jnr. He's far more comfortable on the ball and is a decent passer(I imagine this will get better playing with Daws), he's just very slow (probably because of his size). Junior is better at reading the game and putting his body on the line, but his distribution is a bit **** and he's very injury prone (or at least he makes it look like he is, perhaps to look more heroic).
Like he did last season, gaining valuable experience against top of the table contenders? He's played more Championship games this year than everyone else in the squad, except Dave.
Chazz 'the premature' in Dave is out of position too often at left back, he gets taffled up, so the Clucas / Maloney move is right for me Huddlestone isn't working, it slows everyone else for some reason and so I would agree Hayden should play instead. However SB will disagree. Roll on Friday
he got a 'smart' yellow card by stopping their player before he got in the box.. fella has a shot on him doesn't he? their keeper did well to stop it
He's far better on the ball, in fact, he's excellent on the ball. But sadly, he's always going to be held back by the fact that that he moves likes a supertanker. I think there's a reasonable chance that we only signed him to make Huddlestone look agile.* *this may not be an entirely serious point.
Whilst this may be true you are excluding other members of the squad who were playing in a division higher.
I agree he is better than Bruce going forward, but for me a defender's main role is to defend - and Bruce is far better at that in my opinion.
I'm not at all even though that's irrelevant to the conversation anyway. IRW has stated, as fact, that HM does not have the proven experience of playing against top of the table teams, which is evidently bollocks. He has more recent experience of not only playing in the Championship but also against top of the table Championship teams than all but one of the current squad.
Where's he going to go? Championship? According to you he's not good enough! L1, what experience does that give him? He's been there proved it, if he did he still wouldn't learn anything new because it's not the standard we play at! So when he comes back, you'll be saying, he's been playing L1 football so isn't ready for the Championship! It's like the Townsend situation, he needs to be playing at a higher level, no one wants him at a higher level, so he plays in the Conference & not improving because of the quality of the opposition! So in theory we can't play him at LB, even though he's never played at Championship level, everyone assumes he can't cope. Yet numerous posters want to see academy players come through! At what point do you give someone a break? Answer when necessary, as Harry has done now!
