Now I have no issue with this or the French - but on the 11th September 2001 thousands of americans and other nationalities were killed in 4 different attacks by Al Quaeda (sorry I don;t know how it's spelt!)

For a small amount of time there was support - not a single person decided to light their stadium (or the Penshaw monument up) in supporting colours for America. There was no outpouring of support like there has been in the UK for less than the 200 who died. No playing of the Amerincan national anthem at all of the football grounds the next weekend.

So why this time? Why has this happened now but not then?

I personally think it's a little overkill. The monument looks good but I don't see wht we have done it. When the attacks in the tube on 7/7 happened I can guaranetee the french weren't playing the God Save the queen at their football stadiums. So why is this worse than that? (Not sure if someone has already said this as I haven't had much time to get on here last few days!)

Don't ya know that the Ham Shanks are the worlds police force?
Always telling every other country what they can & can't do.
Poking their ****ing beaks in to everybody elses business.
They think they own the world & can handle it all themselves until they **** up like they do on a very regular basis.
When that happens they call out their pit bulls to help them out, us!
Forgive me if I don't show them much sympathy. <ok>

On another thread my view was it was just a gesture of solidarity and nowt wrong with that.

It only occurred to me later that we didn't do that for the Russians a few weeks earlier. Okay it wasn't football related, but how many Brits have been to Sharm? You can create links to any event.

Why didn't we show solidarity with the Malians 2 days ago, or with the Nigerians on so many occasions over the last 10 years? Is it because it's a long way away and they're black?

    Well said that man.

The storming of the hotel the other night barely raised news.

Attacks are happening everywhere. But now it has happened in France. A country that has let immigrants in fairly uncontrolled for ages. This huge outcry.

France has itself to blame partly, same as when it happens in Germany. Which it will.

It will happen in the UK also, and maybe America. But the UK and the yanks being warmongers will not harp on about it. Actions speak volumes.

The French anthem at the games is abit cringeworthy imo.

I have nothing against the French and thought the gesture for the game against them was excellent. However, the singing of the French anthem at every premier League game was for me a step too far..

It's called 'virtue signalling' and if you put the French tricolour on your Facebook picture it means you are a really good person and all your mates will think you are nice.

It's a form of conditioning to keep us focused on 'terror and fear' and not to focus on living life and looking outside the box - the populace is in fear because the mainstream news media wants to keep us that way

It just captured people's imagination and gave them a cause to rally around. No problem with it really, not like it did anyone harm.

    This.

Why do people always look for issues in everything, even with nice gestures?

It's probably capturing more people's imagination because it's our neighbours and that's just the way it is.

Yes, I think this is exactly what it is. I couldn't even imagine it would have anything to do with skin colour in this day and age, especially with our country.

That's something I completely disagree with though. France is a multi-ethnic society.

    Shocking comment, in all honesty.

Not at all. Like i said in my first post on this thread. The hotel attack in Mali has barely made news.

The fact this one happened in France is of no more importance to me.
