Just to make this clear, if anyone wishes to quote from the Old Testament to counter any criticisms I may have made about Islam, please feel free to **** off, as that is garbage as well. And before you go there, don't bother pointing out the inconsistencies in the legends of Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny, as they're on the same level as the Bible and the Koran too.
What's happening there is wrong. All sides are to blame in equal measure. Israel are needlessly aggressive but the reasons why are pretty damn obvious. A show of weakness would in all likelihood, lead to another Arab Israel war. The Palestinians are exploited by other muslims too, a fact often ignored. I dont agree with it but I can understand why they are so aggressive.
Reason.... You crack me up pal. Like I said, I don't expect you to agree. Faith requires you to bekieve the unbelievable. That's without reason or fact. Its reasonable to question that which is not based on fact or reason. Do you not agree?
They are the basis of our society now not child-like rules. This is regardless of religion they are mostly written into UK law. You also mention your right to comment. Of course but comment is what you are doing and not considering or taking any notice of responses. You are acting like those you hate so much but pushing opinion and denying any reasoned argument.
Indeed. Adolf Hitler's brain is connected to the central most server that powers all the others. It is a way of preserving him until his new mechanical body is ready. This time when he comes back he'll have the sum knowledge of the internet at his disposal. (which means he'll be really good at making people jack off)
Reasoning isn't his strong points! I have only been posting to him recently and boy I feel sorry for those that have been debating with him far longer than this!
1) don't have any other Gods - not British law. In fact trying to force someone to follow this commandment would get you locked up on a hate crime. 2) no idols/graven images. - again not a British law. Taking peoples idols away would get you locked up too. 3) Don't take Lords name in vain. - for christ'sake there is no law that forbids this. 4) Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. - Friday night through Saturday (the Sabbath) is when most of the partying and debauchery takes place. 5) Honour your parents. - Nice thing to do but not a law. 6) Don't kill. - ahhh.. Over half way through the commandments and finally one that is law in the UK. Although, it's also law in all countries regardless of faith. 7) Don't commit adultery. - frowned upon but not illegal. 8) Don't steal. - 2nd commandment that is law in the UK. Although again. This is law everywhere. 9) Don't tell lies about people - Not a crime although I hear that @luvgonzo likes to shag sheep whilst telling lies about people. 10) No wanting other people's stuff. - again not a crime From this I conclude that the UK legal system is in no way based upon the 10 commandments.
Get a ****ing grip. You act as though had it not been for the Bible then we wouldn't have a moral code. Most of our common law derives from Roman law, which in itself pre-dates Christianity. Murder, for instance, is against the moral code of most societies. The Chinese had rules against it thousands of years before the Nazerite walked the earth. The idea that we had no moral code, nor would have now had it not been for religion, is totally preposterous.
Religion does have a good side too. For example religious people are much more likely to give to charity than nonreligious people. (I don't remember the amount difference but it was sizable). Of course religious people are more likely to commit crimes too. People who view themselves as "very religious" are the demographic with the largest % chance of going to jail. It appears there is a "Robin Hood" effect tied to religion.
Every study that I've seen on the amount given to charity by those of different faiths includes tithes as part of the donation total. They also tend to be polls, which ask people and depend on honest answers, which is a little problematic.
Very true. But he would still have been right about life after death. Just neither would see it. A very fitting comparison for those that demonstrate this. Hopefully that's the case
I remember one on Rev which went along the lines of the little dragonfly nymphs (or mayflies, or suchlike) never seeing one of their friends anymore after he became a crysallis, grew wings and left the pond, never able to return. Ahhh. Reminds me of Sunday school. Go on then, cover my daughter so that you can only see her eyes (cover her mother's gob, anyway), tell me what meat I can eat, who I can marry, who I should stone and whose hand I should chop off. Stories like that command complete obedience and the cessation of any doubt or reason. Where do I sign up?
That is possibly the most ridiculously stupid post I've read on this thread. And considering the number of ridiculous posts on here, you've certainly outdone yourself
Absolute bollocks Luv. Religion being involved in law an politics is part of the problem. And by all means, you show the reasoned arguments for religion, something that doesn't allow reason.
And yet we have billions who can marry who they want, dont stone anyone, and dont chop off people's hands. Let me listen to stories of western utopia. Who I can rob, who I can cheat on, who I can step on to get a promotion and who I can bomb to oblivion and nuke to kingdom come. Ofcourse I dont believe that is an indictment of western life any more than yours is an indictment of the religion.
Oh so what you are saying is that accounts from those who were the oppressors are more likely to be accurate the those of the ones they oppressed? Very strange viewpoint.
I think you have a rather disingenuous nature. While you claim to be a critic of all religions, and you throw in a few comments here or there about other faiths, you seem to have skewed bias against muslims. I wonder what you'd be posting if a group of extremist muslims kicked out 2 million people, and claimed that due to 2000 year old scriptures they had a God given right to occupy other people's lands by force. And then proceeded to disportionately kill and imprison hundreds of thousands who fought to reprise their homeland? No name-calling here I promise you, but you sir, are a hypocrite.
