I wonder if this is about Scudamore trying to look good to make up for the sexist emails of a while back. And only the other day he was talking positively about gay footballers coming out.

I've heard this argument a lot, that we've prioritised the attacks in Paris compared with the sufferings of people in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and other parts of the world. I think it's normal for people to focus on things close to home, and whilst the attacks in other parts of the world are equally important, it's understandable that people in Western Europe show more solidarity with our French neighbours. For example, I think the other Islamic nations show more solidarity and affection with Palestine than Western European countries when tragedies occur. Turkish fans booed and jeered the minute's silence for Paris in their most recent game.

Social media plays a part as well. ****ers on Twitter will swarm to follow a trend. How many people are talking about Nepal now on Twitter? Or Nigeria which is still under threat from Boko Haram? Palestine isn't getting as much attention as it did during the Gaza Crisis in the summer. The innocent victims of these attacks are all of equal value; it's just normal for people to highlight the ones they think affect them the most.

On another note, this is over the top. Wembley was respectful but this is cringeworthy.

the problem we cause by doing this is we potentially insult every other country where an atrocity occurs because we don't sing their national anthem - we didn't sing the Russian anthem when over 200 died - God only knows what's happening at the Radisson in Mali at the moment - do we sing theirs as well - totally OTT

People from 19 countries killed in France. Are they going to start playing national anthems an hour before kick off?

Was the Star Spangled Banner played sfter 9/11? Did other countries play our anthem after the London bombings?
No. And rightly so. So why this orgy of anthem playing now?

Kinell! Some of you are a bunch of whining twats.

Use it to warm up the vocal cords and then do it for the Tigers.

Are we back in the PL? Or just showing solidarity? Maybe a quick blast of the .French Anthem in the West Stand before games would warm up their vocal chords and lead to a crescendo of noise.

If there's one thing we can all surely agree on, it's a ****ing fantastic national anthem. Whenever I hear it I feel tremendous jealousy over our ****ty, turgid affair. Land of Hope and Glory would be so much better.

    Or Jerusalem.

Both are so much better than GSTQ. only good thing about it is the Sex Pistols tune.

and 2 members of my family were saved by french farmers during an assault... what's your narrow minded point?

I do think it's OTT but I'm responding to this "downright insulting" claim that France gave in. You might as well have said that those who ran out of the Bataclan without having a go at the terrorists were pusillanimous cheese-eating surrender monkies f

OK, Casimodo - I overlooked that (EPL) point, but some posters are getting even more wound up, IF IT DOESN'T AFFECT OUR LEAGUE.

For ****'s sake, have a bit of sympathy, or a bit of humility, lads. It's not the end of the world, even though the crazies would apparently welcome that event.

I'm not angry, it's just cringeworthy. Before the international game was appropriate but this is just sycophantic. A minute's silence alone across all leagues would be more appropriate.

France were overwhelmed in WW2, I don't think any country would stand a chance against the Germans blitzkrieg tactics. I know a fair bit about it all as my Grandad was in Paris before the War broke out and was evacuated fighting a rearguard action with the Welsh Guards all the way to Dunkirk. Also he was back to liberate France and Belgium. I partly blame the oaf Clarkson for popularising the 'cheese-eating-surrender-monkeys' thing. It simply wasn't the case under such a mighty onslaught.
