    Don't think this was worth a thread on it's own but is anybody else quite annoyed that we didn't go for Capdevila from Villareal on a free?

    He's after joining Benfica as their replacement for Coentrao, would have been a superb free signing even for a season or two until we got a permanent player in. Even if we bought a left-back next season he would have made a brilliant back-up!

    Alexis Sanchez finally signs for Barcelona for a intial fee of £23m which could rise to £33m (33 is my special number)

    Makes me wonder, why didn't Udinese just accept City's £35m bid? They were holding out for something around £40m+ before, why the change?

    I don't see why you'd buy say Sanchez or Pastore for £40m+ anyway. They would be a gamble, even if they pull off you can't make much profit, and if they don't you lose out. Why wouldn't you just buy a player for £20m who's already established?

    Barcelona and Real Madrid do get some good deals though, Affelay, Nuri Sahin to name a few.

    Not at that age, even allowing for defenders generally being older. He'd expect a big wage, have no resale value and as a back-up he'd be taking up a slot which could be taken by a developing younger player, who might be hungrier for it than a guy coasting to the end of his career.
