And back to the original point of the thread...Ron mentioned Davis when asked about our Mane, Pelle and Tadic triumvirate....showing how important he considers him.
I thought I was being a bit vague. To be specific. Attackers get assists and goals, etc.. as stats. Defenders get interceptions, tackles, take-ons, etc... I've never really known what a take-on is.
Let's not forget that Lallana was in the PFA team of the year 2013/14. Other players, professional footballers who vote for this award, decided that Lallana was the best player in his position in the whole league. I guess they also succumbed to the unbelievable hype about Lallana. I don't know how they have missed Gaston, who actually has better end product.
Sorry, replying to rather an old post but I've been off net for a while moving to Dorset ... I love the vid I also love that anyone who didn't see Chris Marsden play might assume he did this a lot ... which he did of course
Yes, Hoddle is a big fan of Lallana, but with each game he is quantifying his support, more and more, with words, to the effect, that "Lallana needs to start doing more with the ball, when in possession." Not saying he wasn't good for us, but he has reached/passed (IMO) his peak, and isn't having the impact on games he, perhaps, should be having.
A take on is an attacking stat, sometimes they use "dribble." If you attempt to beat a player off the dribble it's a "take on." Lallana was a very good and very important player for us, because 1) we aren't a top club and 2) We had good managers who mostly kept him motivated and allowed him to play to his strengths. After he went to Liverpool, he doesn't stand out as much because of coaching and other talent. But he's not terrible either. He's a decent squad player for them. Davis is a very good and very important player for us, because 1) we aren't a top club and 2) We had good managers who keep him motivated and allow him to play to his strengths. If Davis were to go to a big side, he wouldn't stand out as much because of coaching and other talent. But he wouldn't be terrible either. He'd be a decent squad player for them. Ramirez has just been hurt constantly, so I don't think we will ever know what he could have been. He's been fairly effective for us when he actually manages to get on the pitch.
Not a kid anymore....should be at his peak now and in the next year or so. If he doesn't improve, he will be a decent player over his career, but I think he will have missed out on achieving his potential.
I think he has just stalled but I understand what you are saying. I also see what you are saying r.e. Hoddle's comments but one thing that stuck in my mind from the Spain game was when Lallana received the ball with his back to goal just into Spain's half, 3 players on him pushing him away from goal and England's magical midifield ran past him rather than give him a back pass option. He was of course dispossed and that was the point when Hoddle stated the 'He has to lay that off quicker'. He didn't get a chance to shine last season at Liverpool playing in an unfamiliar role because Coutinho is the centre of that team and Sterling doesn't pass. Ally that with Sturridge's brief return and you have 2 selfish players in there. This season we will see if he can return to form under a decent manager or whether he goes out on loan to Stoke or smoething Davis hat-trick at the weekend <-----------on topic
Chris Marsden was ace. Are there compilations of his 'determined' tackles? The goal in the video is funny. It's like the defence are standing off him trying to anticipate who he will pass to. Surely he will pass, surely he will pass....oops. The FA cup final against Arsenal I was cheering him on with every chase and crunching tackle. I remember a very early 2 footer. Get in there my son..........errmmmm I mean disgusting, that would and should be a red card as it is now
He followed the ball like a magnet and was always there to win it back. He took it personally when they kept the ball for more than a few seconds. He also had a great partnership with Bridgey and was always there to play the ball to get Bridgey forward and cover for him when he did. 90th minute and someone puts the ball into the opposition half by the corner flag, their full back would amble over, collect the ball, turn ... ... and who was bearing down on him? CMFG that's who !!!
