Apparently the winner of the women's steeplechase in Berlin 2009 has had her gold medal revoked because of doping - they can't give it to the Russian who came second because she's accused of doping. Any idea who came last cos she might get a gold medal in the post!

Is it the year of the Jeremy? Clarkson the assaulter, Corbyn the... whatever you think of him, and Hunt the man who is brighter than the medical collective, who backed Murdoch in a previous incarnation...

So farewell then, Jeremy 'what's his name'
    You were all less
    than
    you were cracked up
    to be or not...
    and
    Assumed greater importance than your
    failures demanded.
Looking forward to retirement can but soothe the
    Soul.

    Apologies to Mr.Thribb

Jeremy Hunt did give me one of the biggest laughs of my life. I was on the way home from dropping my brother at Southampton airport, listening to Radio 4 when this happened. I'll never forget it and I always think of it when I hear his name...

I was driving to work when that happened. Nearly crashed the car, as I'm sure many others did!

Fair to say I was slightly taken aback by Andrew Neil's opening to 'This Week' on the BBC.

    Blimey...

Quite courageous as well....brave to step out from the crowd and risk being a target.

Yes, I remember that too. I haven't listened to the Today programme regularly in recent years, but I did that day. Coughing fit, my arse.! James Naughtie was desperately trying to stop himself from bursting into laughter. Tbf, he did well under the circumstances. :)

We may see a change in how these things are handled. The most effective way in the past was to hold back and wait so as not to precipitate anything, but now we are not dealing with rational people who are negotiating for something, we may see security forces going in mob handed...sacrificing some hostages in order to save more. The French went in as soon as they knew hostages were being killed (in other words they weren't hostages in the real sense of the word).

Of course, not clear what is being dealt with in Mali.

Islamist scumbags was a gross error. These murderous bastards are not like any of the many Muslims I know.
