Just read about this gamble, owner had all 4 at big odds and just before the off of the first all four were under 13/8. I see the first was pulled up.

This Sheena West whoever she is would barely train 4 winners in a season never mind an afternoon. Hilarious how bookies love making up crap about these midweek gambles. Barney Curley indeed LOL

Now, now, Beefy, calm down. Admittedly, dear old Sheena is no Mr Henderson but she’s not a bad trainer.

The remaining pair at Lingfield Park are still shortening despite the performance of the opening duo.

Needed Rubi Light to stop to a walk, on the bridle talk is nonsense, he was ridden for about half a mile before Rubi Light stopped well before the last, Cooper was happy to get beat and not be hard on him but when Rubi Light stopped all he had to do was let him stay on past.

I'd say Cooper was hoping he would get beat alright. That's what all the jockeys want, to lose money and get the best horse beaten. Rubi Light got his fractions wrong, everyone knew he would try go from the front and he didn't last home but almost got away with it. SDC made up 25 lengths withing a few seconds and then just eased home hard held.
As far as comeback runs go, you couldn't have scripted it much better, got a lovely bit of work done in the home stretch.

Doubt he was hoping he would get beat but he wasnt going to whip the arse off him to catch Rubi Light, saying he won hard held is misleading in my opinion, he was ridden from 4 out, Rubi Light stopped like an anchor between the last two and SDS just stayed on.

If you swapped round the performance of SIR DES CHAMPS and the 'mighty' MALA BEACH returning from 2 years off the track I suspect the analysis would be somewhat different... <whistle>

It was a lovely piece of work I feel regardless of where he finished. He picked up lovely when asked and the acceleration was clear to see. Just happened Rubi Light was all out at the last fence due to an agreesive ride on heavy going. I'd say they're more than pleased with SDC tonight.

Bookies obviously getting the Christmas party expenses, you couldn't seriously have a gamble on 4 horses that all end up running like dogs.

I suspect Mala Beach would probably have won, 5/1 to 9/4 suggests they were trying and at 7yo I think he would have capitalized on Rubi Light stopping faster than 9yo Sir Des Champs who wasnt going to be given a hard time to win.

33/1 the winner for the Gold Cup is conservative, would be 66s with a lesser trainer.

Can you explain why Lyreen Legend and Letter Of Credit who were in front or upsides SDC rounding the bend didn't finish in front or beside SDC then? If he didn't quicken up I'm not sure what to call it. He got from A to B quicker than those ie. acceleration.

Or more likely, they slowed faster than him? I haven't watched it, but thats normally the case for plodding staying chasers.

No, the horse clearly quickened up. Bryan Cooper said it was great to see the engine is still there immediately after the event. I think Stevie Wonder commented on his nice pick up too.

Anyway, it was a lovely comeback I don't really see what Edward is trying to achieve by crabbing a horse who ran a cracker after a career threatening injury on his come back and I'd say connections are delighted.

How you analyse it depends on your agenda and/or if the result was your desired outcome...

What we need is a sad sectionals expert on here, can I nominate the position for Ron or Oddy. Lets face it, they have an easy ride looking after us, it would be useful if they did something for the forum <laugh>

Come on Ron, lets have some statistics on whether he was slowing or quickening...

Without getting drawn into sectionals etc may I humbly suggest it was simply a case of the further he went the better? He's a Gold Cup runner up, lets not forget today was certainly on the sharp side for him so it was very pleasing he done his best work close home.

As far as comebacks go I thought it was perfect. In fact even if he'd been beat a couple of lengths I can imagine Willie Mullins would have been talking about a great run/needed the run/blew up at the end etc and everyone would have been happy. To win like he did was very, very good after the time off.
