You are correct Seaburn did have a boating lake. Along with a zoo, a fair, dry ski slope, adventure park and many things.
Yeah mate Seaburn used to have allsorts. Always packed. If im not mistaken im sure one of the lions escaped one time and was spotted wandering down dykelands rd. Not your everyday experience.
I've just read that, yeah it escaped and the coppers ended up cornering it in a field before knocking it out with some darts, then putting it in the police van and taking it back to the zoo. Mental. One year after that, a 12 year old girl was attacked by a tiger and needed 250 stitches after having her face and neck damaged in the attack. She was given a box of chocolates as compensation. It closed shortly after that.
It was a shame as Seaburn had allsorts. The amount of visitors was mental. But one by one they all started closing. Just a bit further along you have South Bents where the bay hotel was. A cracking place. Now also gone. I do believe in the old days some of the big stars played at seaburn hall. Big investment could revive the place. Sunderland has a topper seafront but lacks facilities these days. From the marina all along to whitburn its ripe for picking imo.
There are lovely beaches all the way up the northeast coast. Shame about the prevailing winds from Norway though.
Aye. Watched them in Newcastle in March. Baz said something like, "it's good to be back in God's country. Well almost God's country" He did put the boot in a bit but it was all in good fun. Would rather Baz fronted them than Hugh Cornwell. .
Why not? Three of the 'original' band members are still there (greenfield joined in their first year) and they are old at 60+. Black is a 77year old drummer who turns out a few sets when his health allows. So a) they are old. tick b) they still play gigs, that people go to and enjoy. tick = " these old boys still know how it's done".
Aye, I did. Just next to Harperly Hotel when they had the caravan park there. Closed about the same time as Lambton Lion Park I think.
Don't get me wrong fella. I love the stranglers but they've had 10 members with 5 people on vocals over the years. I'm sorry but ****ing with vocals too much messes with the dynamic. I've seen them on DVD from the 70s when Hugh was in the band when he Burnel and Greenfield all did their bit on Vocals, and I went to see them in the Noughties when Paul Roberts did all the Vocals himself and it was ****e. The DVD of that old recording was better than seeing them live. I know they've gone back to having three vocalists chipping in and that will probably improve them, but I can only go on my own experiences and they were poor. What I saw was a distortion of the Stranglers.
Sounds like what-his-names broom from Only Fools and Horses. Had it for years, still as good as the day he bought it. Its just had 4 new handles and 6 new heads
They have reverted back to a more traditional set up. I imagine they're much better now than they were in the naughties.
With Baz in the mix, making up the 4-piece, they're much closer to their original set-up. He's a good Mackem 'punk rocker' and must have been with them for around 10 years, helping them get back to being good. The first 10 years were undoubtedly their best though, as with most bands. the bit in the middle they were **** as they experimented post Cornwell, pre-Baz - which was when you had the misfortune to see 'em.
