TWTD is reporting that Shane O'Connor is on trial at League Two Crawley. This is outrageous. What the hell is going on? There must have been a pretty big bust up to be letting a player of Shane's quality go.
Overrated. I've said it before, Jewell wants a team of men, not little boys like O'Connor, Hyam, Peters, Civelli etc
Gutted to see him go but good on him. I like players who are not prepared to fester in the reserves and pick up their wage. The lad wants to play football so I hope it all goes well for him Calling the players above little boys is patronising and not supportive of the club, team, players. Bad Svendust
Tell you what Svendust, if the team last season had made half the effort that Jaime Peters has we wouldn't have had such a crap season. If the men you refer to are those with no heart, no desire, no pride and those that bottle 50/50 challenges then you can keep them.
Agreed with the last two posts... O'connor looked proper good when he played against leicester, albeit on snow, peters works hard for the team and should be as full back (with our current squad) Hyam also looked like a fantastic prospect, and was extremely solid at only 18. Civelli, well, that was rather unfortunate...looked like he could be a good aquad player, but his brain must be all over the place right now. He needs to be playing in our pre-seasons so we can have another look at him. We need some young hungry players in our team/squad, and we need to be nurturing them for when we return to the big time, otherwise miilions will need to be spent to muster a team good enough for the prem.
Interesting topic this. I thought O'Connor was alright personally, however have read in a fair few places and off people that his attitude and application was somewhat lacking. Appears that could have substance if he's been used fleetingly by both Jewell + Keane... " Tell you what Svendust, if the team last season had made half the effort that Jaime Peters has we wouldn't have had such a crap season. " You can have the effort all day long, however if you don't have the quality then there is very little point. Peters is another Matt Richards, runs around all day long with a very limited ability. Look at Berbatov, a player people accuse of being lazy. Oozes quality. Jack of all trades master of none is Peters. Not good enough to beat his man or whip in the best ball ever on the wing. Not good enough in the tackle or position wise to make a good full back.
You miss the point Westlake. If these (allegedly) quality players of our had the same amount of drive and effort of Peters then they would be so very much better. Unfortunately we don't possess a player of Berbatov's quality and, as such, we have to rely on them putting the work in - many don't.
Maybe his attitude is all wrong. But then again, if you think you are better than the other players in your position and you are continually overlooked would you just sit about with a happy smile on your face. It could be that he's pissed off at not being given a decent chance and that shows during training etc. It could also be that he's just not good enough. Pure speculation on my part.
I agree with the sentiment. Peters is a hard working player and clearly wants to make it. A lot of other " players " lack application, and don't try as hard they could. However, going forward their will be losses on the way and if Peters is one then that's fine by me.
The original 'argument' I had Westlake was not whether he was good or bad, or whether he should stay or go - it was merely in reference to Svens sentiment of JP being a 'boy'. Right, that's that cleared up
We definitely need to keep our decent youngsters...you cant buy a whole team! (and shouldn't want to)
Didn't mean to sound patronising. I was referring to their mentality rather than their age. Nothing wrong with having a team with youngsters but if they aren't mentally tough enough the team will go nowhere, just as it has gone nowhere with players like Garvan, Matt Richards, Dean Bowditch etc. I get the feeling that Jewell has looked very closely at the players I've mentioned and can see in their eyes that they are not up to it. On the other hand you have players like Smith and Carson who although maybe aren't the finished article and are lacking confidence in Smith's case, they have the right mentality and are worth sticking with.
Carson's absolute class, he really looks a cracking player. Don't rate Smith at all to be honest, but thats just my view. If he plays well and proves me wrong, I'll be delighted. The above poster is right. Its great to see youngsters coming through, but there comes to a point when they need to ' cut it '. Peters to my view never did on the wing. Keane cleverly tried him at full back, started well and faded again. Move on for everyones sake. As for O'Connor, I've thought he's played well. However, also heard his attitude off pitch is suspect which could be right if neither Keane or Jewell were willing to play him. Again, best for all if he moves on.
