Yet you fail to what? disprove anything, jokes post liking and consensus of opinions doesn't mean anything lad.

You tell me planes can fly through buildings and leave no hole, and you know it happened because you see it with your own eyes yet refuse to even contemplate it because the only answer is that the footage that shows that happening is fake, cos you've never offered a plausible explanation. :D

all the climate stuff is bobbins yeah, care to tell me why, which bits?

    The Planet Remade

    Oliver Morton
    Princeton Univ., $29.95

The plans sound like something out of the handbook of a James Bond villain: generate artificial volcanic eruptions, seed colossal clouds that shade the planet, cover the oceans in immense algal blooms visible from space. Despite seeming outrageous, such Earth-altering schemes, some argue, may be the only viable way to stave off threats posed by climate change (SN: 6/5/10, p. 16).

In The Planet Remade, journalist Oliver Morton presents the need for a real-life “Greenfinger” to cool the planet. Curbing humankind’s fossil fuel habit within the next few decades is just too tall an order considering today’s lackluster energy alternatives, he argues. So society should pursue geoengineering as a supplementary way to crank down Earth’s thermostat.

Morton’s advocacy for geoengineering separates the book from previous tomes on the subject (SN: 6/5/10, p. 28). Instead of on-the-scene reporting, he lays out the scientific case for geoengineering and addresses critics’ concerns about unintended consequences and the desire to maintain an unspoiled planet. (Agriculture and deforestation have long entangled the environment with the “human empire,” he contends.)

The book lays out the typical laundry list of geoengineering proposals, from extracting carbon dioxide from the air to deploying giant Earth-orbiting space mirrors. But Morton has a clear favorite. A variety of airborne particles reflect sunlight like tiny disco balls. A fleet of high-flying planes could spray these aerosols into the stratosphere and thicken the sun-dimming veil that surrounds Earth. Less sunlight would reach the surface and bingo, the planet would cool. The necessary technologies already exist, Morton says, and costs could be partially offset by charging tourists for a ride high in the sky.

Through pages of rigorous scientific groundwork wrapped in elegant prose, Morton provides a guided tour of why we need geoengineering. The road he takes is well trodden. But for the uninitiated, The Planet Remade is a delightful introduction to the seemingly absurd proposals that could be our fragile world’s final hope.

Can Your Genes Make You Happier?
    Nov 10, 2015
By Deepak Chopra, MD and Rudolph E. Tanzi, PhD

When people think about genes, they tend to apply the words good or bad to them. Someone with talent or unusual beauty "must have good genes," we say. And ourselves? Depending on how your life is going, you may thank your genes or feel victimized by them. Most of the time, however, the average person will assume that their genes are a mixture of good and bad elements. Yet this kind of thinking seriously misrepresents how genes work.

Only about 5% of disease-related gene mutations are fully penetrant, the terms geneticists apply when a gene directly causes a disorder. Otherwise, 95% of genes linked to disorders act as an influence. They can sway one way or another, depending on other factors. Your biology doesn't spell your destiny. You have many choices, because "other factors" include a vast range of influences, including diet, exercise, stress management, and emotional events we take as everyday occurrences.

These influences don't change the genes you were born with, which remain the same all your life. Instead, what changes is genetic activity, meaning the hundreds of proteins, enzymes, and other chemicals that regulate the cell. As the cell thrives, so does the entire body, and so do you. Imagine that your body is like a social network passing messages back and forth about how your day is going. These messages are received by every cell, so there is total participation even when you assume that a single event--getting a parking ticket, being yelled at, having a bout of indigestion, or being in a bad mood--is separate and isolated.

In reality, no mind-body event is isolated; therefore, genetics is being turned on its head. Instead of being fixed and locked away, our DNA is dynamic and involved. You are speaking to your genes with every thought, word, and action. Experiences are recorded and remembered at the genetic level (such markers are studied in a special field known as epigenetics, which focuses on how sections of DNA are activated or suppressed). Without going into the complexities of genetic activity, a single lesson is emerging: a person's genes and their lifestyle form a single feedback loop.

    An Introduction to Super Genes
    Deepak Chopra and Rudolph Tanzi

    Courtesy of YouTube/The Chopra Well

What this means is that you have a choice of what input you want your genes to receive, and secondly, the more positive the input, the more positive the output the genes will send as a response. Tracing lifestyle choices to the genetic level is a recent, extremely exciting development. It helps to make the mind-body connection irrefutable. At the same time, it underlines how important meditation, self-care, and expanded consciousness are, because these are the chief avenues of positive input.

Meditation puts you in direct contact with the source of the mind-body system, which means your thoughts have direct access to beneficial genetic activity. The effects of meditation, such as a sense of being calm, at peace, centered, and unstressed also have crucial importance to how well your cells are functioning, via the genetic activity inside the cells.

Self-care includes all areas of tending to your own well-being. Once you know that a simple action like standing up from your desk every hour sends positive input to your cells, even the smallest input becomes more important. Starting with organic foods, pure water, and clean air, then proceeding to stress management all the way to everyday causes of negative emotions like anger and anxiety, the field of self-care is hugely optimistic, because you get to be the controller of the feedback you receive from your body. Instead of seeing yourself as the victim of your body's flaws and problems, you form a working alliance that mutually benefits you as a person and every cell in your body.

    MFG take note <laugh>

    good post.

Not really up on the subject but have reasearched a bit about genes being switched on and off by our evnironments. Was looking into why people are left or right ideological wise.

There seems to be a correlation (study not certain due to controls) of stressful pregnancies produces humans more influenced by the lizard brain (cant remember scientific name) rather than their neocortex when a threat to their ego is perceived
These people are usually identifiable by ego and defensive responses more extreme than the average human. People who protect their ego vehemently and have flight or fight as an immedaite response to any challenge both physical and mental from other humans, are said to be a result of this gene influence by environment.

Apparently the study suggested stressful pregnancies create more aggressive primitive instinct humans in order to aid survival as the genes interpret the stress as a survival issue.

That would explain Republicans and Daily Mail readers <laugh>

This might explain why in certain parts of society, the poverty and crime environment is creating more feral people with generations of angry violent certainly primitive thinking people, not because they are primitive but because their lizard brain has more control than in others, caused by pregnant women being with violent men\women or a really stressful environment.

The intellectually stimulating atmosphere of Warrington, often called the "Athens of the North" (of England) during the 18th century, encouraged Priestley's growing interest in natural philosophy.

****ing hell. This is taken from a Wikipedia article on Joseph Priestley, who discovered oxygen. He taught at Warrington Academy.

"The Athens of the North"? I wonder if he or his colleagues ever ventured in to The Cheese <laugh>

What's so funny, they are already doing this ffs. :D

Have you any ideo how much biotech and nano pollution there is on the oceans these days?

The Ozone is bieng destroyed and the plankton, bottom of the food chain in the oceans is being killed by nano particles reacting with higher UV because of depleted Ozone.

It's not even a secret they have been spraying, to **** with the atmosphere since the 60s where they created or tried to create rainstorms to flood the trails used by the VC.

China sprayed before the olympics to ensure it would not rain.
Not even a secret like <laugh>

There are companies that now offer these services and a mass of patents for the tech and even official state programs for cloud seeding using silver iodide.

The UK gov has sprayed part of the british poppulation after WWII, spraying populations with bacteria to see how it spread n ****, again not a lie or a theory.

They have been spraying **** for decades lads. :D

Yes I can back it up but am not in the humour of the sophistry sure to follow <laugh>

Apprently according to PJ I am oblidged to answer ludicrous ******ed questions from idiots <whistle>

PJ is that thick that he cannot figure out that with millions of people world wide right on the starvation line, that a drastic rise in food prices drives people below the starvation line, and that lack of nutrition leads to desease and death if starvation doesn't outright kill the person.

he also doesn't believe that thousands of old people die every year from cold in winter. Even though he could just go and check the UK stats in 2 minutes, he decides nah, I'll just disagree with it. I can't give a better example of willful ignorance.

It's why I barely reply to him, he's like Terrific Troare, they ask their "questions" repeatedly and when you answer them and debunk their nonsense, they pretend it never happened. Mouth Breathing morons.

PJ got mullered on Einstein and shown he didn't know wtf he was talking about and he as usual changes the subject <laugh> I could let my rabbit have a mental battle with him ;)

Like I said, rational debate has come to an end in the public domain, people are fed so much billshit by the system that no one knows what the **** is going on outside of that narrative.

It's easy to prove. What is outside the scope of the narrative from Gov Media and Academia.
    Our own war crimes
    War crimes of our allies
Epic banking Fraud - benefit scroungers and Cops shows instead.
****s in power - several large police investigations sealed for 70 years no answers for example.
Scrutiny of the UN IMF World Bank
    Israel's nuclear weapons
    Political corruption
    State terrorism
    Factual History
    Education making dumber kids
    Trade agreements
    Saudi funded terrorism
World Bank causing famine and death by moving deeloping nations away from crop growing, to more profitable for the Bank, production of goods.
    GMO
    BP ties to MI5
Glencore and Drummond british corps actions and human righta abuses in South America and Sudan

Just off the top of my head like, there is probably hundreds if not thousands more things that are excluded from public discourse.

For the vast majority of people these things don't even exist.

I think it is fair to say that any subject that shows a really nasty side to our government or it's actions immedately fall outside of acceptible public discourse.

    ****s, surely not true
    Killing people surely not true
Sponsoring terrorism and civil war, surely not true
Working with banker cronies, surely not true
    taking drugs, surely not true.
Furthering a police state, surely not true

This is the general reaction of people to claims of wrong doing against their gov, yet everyone talks about it as fact if it appears in the BBC and INdo and Telegraph. Cos if all three ideological sides repeat it then it must be true.. remember what Goebbels said about a lie <whistle>

Like most things there are mixed reports on it's impact. The same can be said for beef farming and it's impact on the environment and how crops are grown to feed the animals when the same land area coul dbe used for feeding the hungry

Do you worry about this stuff, [the fact it comes so readily to mind], not good for your health if you do.

RHC posted a piece from Deepak Chopra. I have one of his books and he shares a lot of wise sayings, one of which is “you will be transformed by what you read.” If you are reading a lot of worrying, negative stuff, you may feel that spill over into your everyday life. Have a day where you only read or watch things you know will make you laugh. Then come on here and post and we'll see if we can spot the difference :bandit:

True. I get the feeling you're dismissing some things, not based on the facts, but on who is sharing those facts. You have to distinguish the message from the messenger.
