Never on the mainland and the IRA did weapons deals with all sorts of people. They were facilitators that could cut illegal deals. It was money for them why on earth would they have risked losing their cash streams by risking bringing them to the UK mainland. This proves nothing to me. What we are seeing on our media is not far short of a soap. And the thing that pisses me off is that in a few weeks the very TV shows I harp on about will of attracted more attention I hope people understand why I get so cross with it all. The media is this country is truly wrong IMO

These people are trained in weapon art from birth... Couple that with a belief however wrong it's a problem that will be very hard to combat It's has little to do with the IRA IMO This threat needs to be hit hard and extreme measures required not waffle.
I did miss that point , very true you couldn't hide a ak 47 in public in london very easily but I think there are smaller more compact automatic guns that could cause just as much havoc , my point is simply if they want to they will and can . Em, I'll happily admit I'm wrong have done so many time in the past on here but you have said nothing that would make me change my opinion. The fact that you are starting to try and claim otherwise makes me think the opposite to be honest. This is the truth. It is the propensity to respect and extol extreme violence in the name of Allah by an uncomfortably large number of young Muslim males in the UK that is frightening. They despise the West and resent the fact that the only way they can live well is to live within it. We're storing up big problems for our next generation I fear
I totally agree it could be done with smaller weapons but AK's no. That's the point I was making. Totally agree there are some who are hiding under the moderate umbrella. I'm not defending anyone re. the atrocities I hope they all get what's coming to them I just don't like hysterical nonsense.
Why, if it is so easy to get an AK size of weapon in this country, are we not seeing them being used in other crimes would be a good start.
The IRAs main method of attack on the mainland was bombs, initially with C4, then upgraded to Semtex when they had the supply from Libya. They also used homemade bombs from fertiliser. Weapons were mainly used in province for attacks on RUC, UDR and British forces, or for their punishment shootings. The AK-47, whilst still a 7.62, uses a shorter round than the SLR, which gives less of a kick, making the weapon more suited for short bursts. One reason for the phasing out of the 7.62 to 5.56 was that, although the 7.62 would kill, the 5.56 would incapicitate, and thus the casualty would become a hindrance to his own forces as he needed medical attention (you worry about a corpse once the action has calmed down) There are plenty of places on mainland Britain that would allow anyone who wished to smuggle anything (guns, drugs or people) to land a small craft - we can't watch everywhere.

As I said earlier, they used bombs with timers so they could disappear when they exploded. Using guns left them open to being identified, captured or killed. Isis terrorists have no such concerns.
I know about the 5.56 theory. Not sure I think it works. Certainty not when your faced by an enemy that doesn't care for it's own casualties. I can think of a few places both round your way (Father in law is in Dunnoon) and plenty near Edinburgh. I'm not saying it can't be done but I do think it's highly unlikely. London is too well policed as well. A provincial city/town is a different matter.
Hard to see too many abandoning Islam in a hurry when the book says they should be sentenced to death for doing so.
