Do you have experience or you a military buff like Col? I know an ex guards officer who went through the SAS training/selection, but declined the opportunity to join as he realised what it would mean for his personality and sense of self. One of my colleagues used to be Weapons Officer on a nuclear sub. He's a great bloke, but incredibly rash and quick to jump to conclusions and also very indiscreet. Scary.
I'd bring in ID cards verified by photo, fingerprint and eye iris here in the UK without question. If I remember correctly, it was Labour that wanted to bring them in, and the Tory opposition voted with the Lib Dems to keep them out. Think again.
Just have 1 card for everything Passport Driving licence Id Benefits Etc No need for a million of the things
It's utterly beyond me what the objection is to ID cards. I've lived in two countries where they are compulsory and never thought twice about it. Mind you, I don't think they would prevent things like Paris.
I have experience. Not UKSF though. Do have close friends that were 264 before it became 18th SF sigs. One of which crossed over to the squadrons. not gonna elaborate beyond there as I know he wouldn't want me to. Got serving 42 commando in my other half's family and her Dad is ex RAF. (mechanic) My Dad was ex REME and of course my Grandfather was in WW2. Also a massive armature military historian on the side. Sounds like your mate is an interesting character. Being under the sea in a high pressure situations must do funny things to people.
Most genuine members or ex-members of SF very rarely talk about their experiences or indeed confirm that they are or were members. Suffice to say that they are not the thugs that some paint them to be. They are incredibly resourceful, with many, many different skill sets. They are also absolutely deadly when they have to be.
Yes, my mate who declined the chance to serve with them was full of praise and had no doubt (and neither do I) of the necessity of having a body of men with that skill set - intelligent, with the ability to think incredibly quickly and the skills to act, but at the same time not reflecting on some of the things they are called on to do. He just didn't think he could divide himself like that. He was also very surprised that the selection procedure didn't expose this. He kept the faith and didn't tell me anything about the process, except that at a particular low point he was up to his neck in water and covered in leeches in Borneo. Cheers Passing, you seemed very authoritative on the subject. To be fair to my submariner colleague he is very good at his job and he is being promoted rapidly in the commercial world. And it may be that he is only indiscreet with me, because he trusts me. Which does show a lack of judgement of course.
Unfortunately I can't see any solutions to the situation. I read that France has dropped 20 bombs on the Isis state. I wonder what they hit and who they hit? I know for sure that I would be pissed off if someone was bombing my country. Where does this all stop?? The problem we face is massive. My brother is a headmaster at a very high percentage Asian school, he says the bravado of satisfaction at the Paris atrocities is plain to see especially amongst the males. No words or education will change they're mind and this is even more scary in the fact that the majority were all born in this country! It's scary stuff

Time for full blown gloves off approach, we know who most of these ****ers are, it's time some of them had their comeuppance. The Israelies had the right idea after Berlin in 72, sent out hit squads to wipe out the scum. It may start to give them cause to start looking over their shoulders if the footsteps they hear behind them are the last thing they hear.....would also have a detrimental effect on the commands morale, because the head-honchos don't appear to be too keen to join their comrades in Allahs presence.
Lets keep it that way. No need to hamstring them with too closer scrutiny. Dirty jobs that no one else wants to do.
Good method there in one respect. Sadly it would seem that a lot of the foot soldiers for the extremists haven't the IQ to see it already.
But also revealing. Enemy is within now. Country really is ****ed. Won't be in our lifetime but England will become an Islamic country
