They are just as reliable if done right. They drop off at about 40m and no hand gun is expected to be used at that distance. At 20m they are just as deadly. As for the internet picking it up, not convinced. YouTube has loads of vid on just that subject. (Reactivating blanks that is.) As for pipe bombs, plenty of stuff out there too.

Good point. If someone is interested enough though they would probably find it anyway.

The SAS have been stationed in central London for quite some time and would be ready to react very quickly.
It appears that further men from The Regiment have now been moved to a forward base at Northolt airport.

I think the police will have to be armed eventually (sadly).

The end of no border checks within the EU (which we opted out of) must surely be imminent?

I think the time has come to have the same walk through security devices at football grounds that they have at airports.

    I think it's a must IMO
Travelling around Europe is simple however border or no border
I go to Andorra sometimes and then into Spain and back into France
Been met a couple of times by machine gun searches and no room for larking about. I believe also in ID requirements and stop and search
Just having those measures in place doesn't stop people being free and would make any evil bastards have to plan a lot harder

They have been at Regents Park Barracks since the 70s. 264 Royal sigs are dotted around London too. (264 are the specialist sigs guys for UKSF's and as such are trained to the same basic standard, they just don't do the complicated counter terrorist contact drills but in field craft and non specialist contact drills they are just as capable.)

To be honest the security checks at Wembley could make the situation worse. Bottling the approaching crowd would be an ideal place for one of these nutters to blow themselves up and cause real carnage. That was the intention at the Stade de France on Friday, to panic the crowd with one bomb and then catch them escaping with a couple more. It would be so difficult to prevent...

All public events IMO plus ID cards
Protect the people who have nothing to hide ... The tech is now here by that I mean it works st last
Smart phones everywhere that's the platform and yes they can be stolen or lost just like wallets and passports but the usp they can be cancelled in seconds
Banking on mobiles for example is very secure that tech could be used
Smart phones on average cost £8 each to make
    Already used for boarding passes
It has to come and people who have nothing to hide I think would welcome it

not with a smart phone tech solution it could be just as quick because the devices themselves can be instantly monitored decent planning and rules would keep any large crowds a lot safer and I am certain they must be looking into it

    Indeed.

I believe the SAS have moved extra units from the SRR into central London over the last year or so as well. Plus the news that there are now men from the Regiment based at Northolt, having moved there since the events at Paris.

Beth, out of interest as you seem to have more knowledge of the tribal make up in Syria. Who are the right people to be talking to? What makes you believe they will be able to effectively balance all the sects\tribes\ and extremist views?

To me it sounds like an idealistic, unrealistic and weak view. Corbyn said in June 2014 we need "an acceptance and understanding of Islamic State". And that as "all wars end with political compromise then let's start with political compromise".

The plonker and a lot of the left don't understand the situation isn't stable enough. Look at Libya. You can't negotiate with people who have a goal to kill or convert us to Islam.

They need to be killed or controlled and we need a dictator to do that. Tried democracy in Egypt. In come Muslim Brotherhood!! Sod that. Out they go. In come army. Libya, lose Gadaffi now look at that place.

Better the devil you know. Bashar should stay with Russian support as the cloak for pacifying the guardian readers (who aren't too woried about Egypt). Once things calm down can take baby steps to modernise the middle east and manage transition to someone else we we happy with

As I understand from family the SAS role is completely different from the public idea of what they do

Not surprised by the Northolt move. It's seen as a forward operating base for them anyway but it would make sense from their point of view to beef up their presence right now. It's the multi location element to the latest attacks. They're gonna want to make sure they can go to more then one or two places at the same time. I'll bet all the saber squadrons leave has been revoked though.

That's a very open statement. I know what they do in both a counter and non-counter terrorism role. Gathering intel mostly. Eyes and ears stuff. The black suit stuff is last resort really. They augment the police and offer advice and expert knowledge at home mostly. Overseas it can be very different though.

Same reason the scrubs will always be open land. Mass transport numbers into central London via helicopters.

Agreed my cousin Andrew who served for many years has opened up a lot more. At a wake in July we were talking and I was amazed exactly what they did.
