what about the rest of my point. would we have been as successful trophy wise if we was more careful with him? no
That all comes down to the 2001 treble season. Would we have been stronger in the league if he was able to play more games?
no because we was **** at the back. it would have prob been similar to when we had suarez, cant always score more than the opo to win games and get points, it is a squad game and we was too crap at the back sadly. well thats my opinion obviously, may have been dif but i doubt it sadly.
This is the thing. From a business point of view, use them when at their best and get rid when they are ruined. We got the best out of Torres when he was in his prime (20-28) and got rid when he was burnt out. Obviously from a humane or morale point of view not the best but as you say, you can look after them, protect them build them up like we did with others for them to then piss off at first sign of trouble / more money.
Different types of player peak at different ages. We got the best out of Owen and Torres as the pacey players peak young. Arsenal are likely to miss out on the best of Wilshere as the smarter, passing players peak older, target men like Carroll also peak older, but we are unlikely to see his best because he's been broken. Ibe is likely to peak young (though Ronaldo is an example that this is not always the case with pace players). We broke Martin Kelly for certain by over working him to early.
We were good defensively under Houllier. We didn't score enough goals (Mainly because we parked the bus and played the long ball for Owen & Heskey to chase/win)
You're saying young players don't get tired, which is why I asked - do you think we should play them week in week out, and still expect the same level in each match?
We essentially ruined Torres by overplaying him and not managing his injuries well. It's why Rafa would reluctantly take him off in games. Such a shame because he was the best striker in the world at that time. We did exceptionally well to move him on at the right time.
Again, I didn't say that. I said using fatigue as an excuse is bull ****. You really should try reading lol Young players need to be managed because they lack experience and become complacent. They Need To learn the technical side of things. They could play as much as a senior and not be as effected by it.
Exactly, also lets not forget he cut and ran as soon as the going got tough. Team was struggling and he had a mardy and buggered off, turned out part the reason the team were struggling was cause he was done. Some players are never going to have long careers cause of who they are, some players will have too long careers. So do you use them while you can accepting that you'll get less time out of them but in that time they'll shine?
I'm sure Torres won't be too disheartened, counting his millions earnt from the game. It's not like the selling team remove limbs and organs when a player is of no longer any use. As you said, no room for sentiment
Harsh - Torres was promised that the club would invest in new players and the club failed to act on those promises. Not to mention the fact senior officials forced him to play through injuries which effectively ruined his career.
Strong rumours that we want Horn, Sane and Gundogan in January. Neves could be arriving in the summer. Amazing if all come through.
