Was it? Was our rate of immigration greater then others? Has 5 years of right wing government increased or reduced immigration? Is not straightforward. The vast majority have come to work and many work very hard too. These are complex issues but the temptation to link immigration to all social evils is potentially damaging.

Our rate of immigration was probably not greater than France, but they're a socialist country. It was great enough for the Labour party to apologise for it.

We haven't had 5 years of a right wing government recently. The coalition was all over the place.

What I said was the open door immigration policy was to the left. The most left wing position of all, espoused by certain student groups, is no borders at all.

Parts of the BBC have in the past espoused the rights of free speech of hate preachers - indeed they've given them air time including the islamic group thst supported Jihadi John.
