I'm off later to put down a candle and an inflatable ET doll to show my sympathy.

It's pretty obvious that an attack in France will create more media attention from us, as France are a neighbouring country to us. So we as a nation are obviously going to be more concerned when these attacks are happening near our doorsteps, than if the attacks are happening in Syria.

France are also an allie of ours, where as Syria are not. So an attack on France has the potential to trigger our armed forces into action.

    No, I don't disagree.

It is less 'newsworthy', because broadcasters know that people in the west care less about Syrian people being executed, than they do about French people being executed.

    That's my point exactly really.

And the important point, is not really my point about this being hypocritical in light of our obsession with political niceties, it's the fact that this lack of interest in Syrian lives amongst western populations , is not only reciprocated by western governments, but banked upon by them when they play geopolitical games that they think it will 'only' result in the loss of Syrian lives, which is calculated as harmless collateral, because they aren't going to lose votes just because some Syrians died.

And there are a lot of French players in the Premier League. I cannot think of one Syrian....

Talking of which Spurs put a sympathy message on Facebook and one contributor said "I hope Hugo Lloris is ok" <doh>

I bet that use of french is wrong in that cringey sign.

"Here, bernadette!" "Whit's French fur I love you?" "A hink its Je Taime, Janet"

Have you been to Paris in the last 10 years ?

If so, did you find that :

    * Paris was in a western, first world country, or was not in a western first world country ?
    * People in Paris were mainly white Christian looking types, or mainly Muslimy/Arabic type looking people ?
    * People in Paris could speak English or could not speak English ?
