Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says he will not be overly disappointed if he is unable to capture any more transfer targets before the window closes.

Bruce has brought in 10 new faces to the Stadium of Light this summer, including former Manchester United duo John O'Shea and Wes Brown.

Bruce told BBC Radio Newcastle: "You can never say never, we'll keep trying and we'll keep plugging away.

"But I'm very, very pleased - I'm delighted with what we've done."

The Black Cats started their pre-season campaign on Wednesday with a 2-1 win over York City at Bootham Crescent, Phil Bardsley and Oumare Tounkara scoring first-half goals for the visitors - Jamie Reed grabbing a second-half penalty for York.

And having already landed two players from his former club, Bruce is now hoping to make Darron Gibson the third player to arrive from Manchester United, while Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia has also been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

"A manager's job is always to keep knocking on the door - that's my job," he continued.

"We've bought in something like eight or nine players which is a huge amount and my job is to keep asking for more - believe me I'll do it."

"There's still a bit to go [until the transfer window closes] and it's important because there's still three of four players that need to go out as well and we'll see what happens after that."

Now why would hw say that? Maybe the spending is over, but hope he uses the loan system for 1 or 2 more in that case.

The significant line for me is 'there's still 3 or 4 that need to go...'.

We knew this already like, i feel a big earner needs to go for a big earner to come in, so i think Steed's time is up.

    IBWT,

Imagine 2 Sessegnon's, one of each foot, has anyone checked his family tree??

Bruce and Quinn normally don't deal in public & IMO this is Bruce being canny so we don't get ripped off when we do go in for players

Not sure Brucey but I here they are in "advanced" stages of cloning a genteically modified Sessegnon at the SOL Labs and I have heard rumours that he will be left-footed, I'll keep you posted

    10 Sessegnon's and a keeper, we'd win 8-7 most weeks.

Bruce and Quinn have played a blinder this summer so far and they seem very, very relaxed about the whole N'Zogbia and Striking situation.

Sessegnon's form over the last 10 games he has played for us, has been a huge bonus and if we started the season with Gyan and Sess up front I'd be comfortable. However, it would be dangerous with the African Cup of Nations in Jan and Feb to lose both Gyan and him for several weeks, at that crucial time again and this has to be addressed this window not in January. Bruce will be slaughtered if we suffer another second half of the campaign slump, especially if it is due to this scenario and I feel he will know that better than anyone on here.

I expect at least a striker to come in and maybe you know who.

As we've been saying, a couple have to be moved out first ...

Benin are not going to qualify by the looks of it, best they can hope for is one of 2 best runners up, and they only have 4 points in their group, others have got 10 in other groups.

Ghana may not even qualify (looks like that will come down to the last game away to Sudan, but then they may get a best place runners up spot), and it doesnt look like Egypt will either so Elmo is safe.

I'd love him to bring in a first choice left back, then we can stop all of this Richardson left back bollox (i.e. he'll grow into the position, or the lad just needs time to adapt).
