It's a serious point, Col. We're constantly told that we must keep Trident because we need to protect ourselves. What is it protecting us from? Certainly not atrocities such as this one in Paris. Perhaps we should scrap it and use some of the billions saved to give more resources to the security services and police.

I feel the French people will not like this terrible thing happening and may work towards doing something about it. Good try Loopy but you are thick

I don't Loopy you are correct but this is a thread about a terrible event and from it has been claims about poor French intelligence and ideas on how to quash ISIS. Primarily it's about the sadness and shock people feel and their reactions ... Exactly what are contributing apart from calling me a troll? Put down some real thoughts man or **** off

I think the French are the most likely of all the countries to launch some sort of retaliatory attack on ISIS.

Reports that just 8 people did this
I ask how do you police that threat?
In a major capital city of 2.5 million within the centre and 12 million if you include the entire metropolis
6.75 million people move in and out each day

Maybe they have the power to do so
Like I said to Dave will be interesting to see outcome but I believe they won't want anymore of this
A lot of cities in France I have visited have strong Arab sections ... Many on a knife edge. It will be very difficult

Following the murderous attacks in Paris on Friday 13 November, the Muslim Council of Britain’s Secretary General Dr Shuja Shafi issued the following statement:

““The attacks once again in Paris are horrific and abhorrent, and we condemn this violence in the strongest possible terms. My thoughts and prayers for the families of those killed and injured and for the people of France, our neighbours.

This attack is being claimed by the group calling themselves ‘Islamic State’. There is nothing Islamic about such people and their actions are evil, and outside the boundaries set by our faith.

This week we have once again witnessed outrageous attacks be that in Beirut earlier in the week or Paris today – there is no justification for such carnage whatsoever. We hope the remaining people responsible are brought to justice and face the full force of the law.”

..... Would have been nice for him to finish with "and this is what I and my congregation are going to to to help bring them to justice" or " we are offering the UK security forces our full cooperation to help prevent this bloodshed occurring again" instead of just hoping. Rightly or wrongly people (including me) are just sick of this "it's nothing to do with Islam" stance. Obviously it is.

Let's face it a few Muslims are going to get beaten up tonight, a few Muslim women abused because of what they wear, a few mosques defaced or worse, because idiots don't differentiate between moderate Muslims and violent jihadists. It's not fair, it's not right but until the moderates are seen to take a much more active and public role in sorting this out it will happen in the aftermath of every terrorist attack. The statements aren't enough.

But they are not the suicide bombers. Agree you get clever people going these groups but i am talking about the ones that blow themselves up, however i guess a few may have been clever and just brainwashed into doing this sh@t.
    One thing is for sure.
The french like the Isrealies have a very good secret service that will take out many of these ISIS freaks. Expect to hear about muslims accidentally cutting their own throats and killing themselves in the near future.
You won't stop them but they will take out many in retalliation.
The World will soon get fed up with these muslims and will turn on them in numbers.

The Muslim council are full of empty words.
They don't do enough or turn a blind eye.

I suspect what he means is a revolt by the French people, which shows some insight into the French mentality, although forgive me if I'm wrong DT. They are proud of their right to protest here, and right to stand up and act when opposed. This is a characteristic of French society born in the 1789 revolution, and shown again in 1830. Even if it is against their own, they let it be known when there is unrest. I've witnessed more protests and marches since living here than I did in 25 years living in London. Now, whether you consider tens of thousands of people marching through the street as a stand of defiance, or a joke, is a matter of opinion. However, I think the sheer numbers who will be willing to take to the streets as a symbol, will provoke a need for some sort of response. I think I heard on the news the authorities here have called on people to delay any protest until at least Thursday, by which time people may have calmed slightly, but expect something big when it is allowed.

I suspect the muslim council provide some intelligence to the anti terrorist squad which has helped to foil a number of attacks. Terrorists however are not going to give themselves away to anyone, including moderates
