Don't know. But at a time when a lot of people will be looking for scapegoats, I'd be wary of anything that might demonise Syrian refugees (who are themselves victims of ISIL).

 

As I said in another post. A few psychos will make it so much harder for the normal Syrian refugees. Some people don't get that there are evil people everywhere. It's only demonising a nation if you think that way.

Much though I loved the bloke (the actor; not the character he played) I am struggling to get upset about the death of an 89 year old today.

EDIT: Sorry, Chilco. This sounded rude, and wasn't meant to. I certainly didn't mean to imply that there was anything distasteful about your post. On any other day I'd have said "That's a shame. He was a good actor, and in interviews came across as a decent bloke", but I'm lacking the emotional energy even for that today.

 

Jasper, all I can tell you is that I've drunk port costing £600 a bottle (a customer went mad on me out at dinner in a previous existence) and I've drunk stuff that the Co-op were selling two bottles for £10 last Christmas. Short of drinking them alongside each other I wouldn't be able to say that one was better than the other (I hasten to add that they were both lovely).

If I were looking to spend £30 odd, I'd probably look for something with a less known label, just so it looked better (I think there's a huge placebo effect with any drink - it's even been proven in a randomised controlled trial with whisky, buy cheap and decant into an expensive bottle being the suggested policy of the authors.)

I'm sure people will be along to tell you to ignore this particular philistine but that's my take.

Yes, he had many strings to his bow: a great actor, and not just comedy. I'm sure I saw him in a TV Shakespeare play once but can't remember what it was.

It was the Merchant of Venice. Shylock is an odious character but by the end Mitchell played him so well that you ended up feeling sorry for him. Terrific.

I talked to a few french people. They say you need to use your passport to get into most places. It is also a law to have it on you. So if this is true, maybe he tried to get in some where? If it was one of the stadium ones maybe he tried to get inside?

Or like you said it could to stir up crap for the real refugees.
