Sadly, perversion of one's religion is a huge issue for any religion. Be it Muslim, RC, Protestant, whatever - once the extremists get hold of it and alter it to feed their perverse views, it's always going to be a problem. 99% of Muslims are peaceable, kind people, but the 1% hell bent on destroying the world in the name of religion are the ones we all hear from. Now is the time for all people of the world to unite, put differences aside and say "enough" - these fanatics do not deserve respect - they must be hunted down and eradicated. If it means a tightening of laws on civil liberties, then so be it. Today the world mourns. Tomorrow we must stand together against ALL fanaticism and extremism.
I agree with you and Christianity went through periods of this perversion, but that was then and this is now. No place for such ignorance in a modern world where people all mix with each other and recognise each others humanity. Muslims even turn on other Muslims on differences in doctrine....like RC and Protestants in the past. These militants just want the world to stop....they create nothing and destroy everything.
Mount Zion's a minefield. The Gaza Strip and the West bank will soon be a parking lot for American tourists and fascist cops. **** religion. I sympathise with refuges escaping countries run by murderous governments that are legitimised by oil hungry Western forces... Still hate organised religion though. This is all too depressing.
Like many I have difficulty in understanding who the enemy is in this situation, hard to combat a foe when you have no clues about who they are and what they want. http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/03/what-isis-really-wants/384980/
Spot on Vin!! Read a book by Tom Clancy called Executive Orders and he writes from a number of perspectives including that of the terrorist assassin. These guys have absolutely no religious convictions or a very warped one at least.
I see one of the suicide bombers is believed to be a Syrian refugee. Sadly this will effect the normal refugees fleeing for their life.
It will be interesting to see the reaction of the French people with that of the Spanish. Cast your minds back to 2004 and the Madrid bombings? A first ETA were accused of the atrocity, but soon it was found out to be Al Quada or some other terrorist group. Result, massive street marches on the streets in towns and cities across the country and the withdrawal of Spanish troops from the Middle East conflict in Iraq. Will French citizens put pressure on their Government to withdraw its bombers from dropping bombs on Syria?
Maybe, although people have been saying there would be "Trojan Refugees" for some time. Sadly it was obvious and inevitable ISIS would use that situation to get people into Schengen Europe.
The north terminal of Gatwick airport has been evacuated. Either a suspicious package or a man found with a gun in his bag, depending who you believe.
It's the only thing Cameron has done right (yeah I was nearly sick saying that). We took refugees from Syrian camps after vetting them. Yeah we should take more then just 10'000 by 2020, but at least we checked as much as we could. The rest of Europe got totally overrun, so couldn't check people properly. I guess it helps we aren't connected to mainland Europe as well.
Yeah, I'm very glad we're an Island. Makes it much harder to get into our country undetected. We also have very tight gun control laws in this country. IS are evil but they're not stupid. They surely would want to attack this country like they did with Paris last night but thankfully it would be very difficult. Our biggest threat is individuals who have been taken in by IS propaganda and go on the rampage with a machete or something similar.
Onionlady Jr asked me on Friday morning when I was driving her to school what I thought was the future for human evolution. I said (amongst other things) that I hoped that over the next few thousand years the irrational belief in a supernatural being might reduce its influence over people (technically more of a meme than a gene). She was of the opinion that that would save a lot of lives. Then this happened. Vin
