The latest on the Austin saga.
£8m is still way overpriced for a player who is available for nothing in the Summer.
I don't want us to pay this.
I'd rather we do a deal with him directly for the Summer (he can talk to us from Jan) where we give him a couple of million signing on and then £50k pw beyond that.
QPR really are living in fantasy land if they think any club will pay £8m for 4-5 months.

    http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/11/1...angers-set-lower-asking-price-for-charlie-au/

The Daily Mirror claims that Queens Park Rangers would be willing to sell Charlie Austin if they receive an £8 million bid in the January transfer window.

QPR are hopeful of keeping hold of Austin, but with the striker’s contract expiring at the end of the season – they have set a fee, which would be deemed too good to turn down.

The R’s realise that Austin is crucial to their promotion bid, as he is such a clinical goalscorer, and they are willing to lose him on a free to ensure that he stays with them for the season, but an £8 million bid would persuade them to part with the 26-year-old.

That could alert the interests of Sunderland, Newcastle United and Bournemouth, who have all been credited with an interest in Austin by the Chronicle.

The Premier League trio believe the Austin would enhance their forward lines, but it previously seemed that a deal would be impossible.

QPR had previously ruled out selling Austin for anything less than £15 million, as reported by the Chronicle, but it seems that they have relented slightly on that stance, as the transfer window draws closer.

Austin has scored seven goals in 12 Championship matches so far for QPR.

Still too much in my opinion! It is clear now that we are looking for 2 big strikers and 2 just off the striker type players. Think a top 4 of Mitrovic and (Austin/Dost) with Perez and Armstrong would be fantastic! Problem is we need a link player!

Albert, do you have enough funds in the bandit hideout to pay for this? If so, do it.

If he bangs in the goals from January onwards that keep us up, then £8m will be small potatoes. We are not exactly prolific in front of goal at the moment.

Yes please. I don't give a **** what we pay to be honest. I never understand why fans worry about this, that is for the club to worry about. Yes I'd like to see us not run into the ground, but its hardly likely with the money swilling about. The TV money next year is mindboggling.

The question for me is, as a supporter do you want Charlie Austin here? The answer is yes for me. I don't care if we pay 1m, 8m or 15m.

£8m isn't his value, he's worth more than that.

If you drop out of the league, for the sake of £3m you'd be thinking why the hell you never got him in January for £8m.

Him and his agent will take £5m at least in the summer, but I'm sure he wants to try and get on that plane with England so maybe he'll leave in January if he gets the chance and take less of a fee signing on.

    Who'd buy him?

    Villa would.
    Bournemouth would.
    Sunderland maybe.
Chelsea? I've seen stranger things happen there.
    Spurs maybe.
    Norwich probably.
    Newcastle maybe.

If I was Garde, I'd be getting him tied down now, so that the day the window opens I've got my man, no games of chess with QPR to call their bluff and offer £4m on the last day of January, by that time he could have won them valuable points.

This hes worth that price easily and he has the balls for it too.

In reality qpr will get a bidding war and wages will be our downfall.

    He will score goals

If you think he's going to sign a pre-contract agreement with any team in a relegation battle you're daft Albert. Why would a player who holds all the cards just throw away his strong position so early? He'll have his pick of Midtable clubs in the Summer. Maybe even a top team so why decide early and choose a ****e team at the wrong end of the table?

He is linked with Sunderland too but perhaps he opted for a team out the relegation zone.

In all seriousness he'll go to whoever offers the highest wages.

Make it about a rivalry all you want fella, He wouldn't sign a pre-contract agreement with us either, we're ****e. It just wouldn't be in his own best interests. You'll be back in the relegation zone many times before the season end. Digs like this are just as daft.

I was joking mate no dig intended like I said im trying to be a better man.

I'll be honest i think we will win our next two games or get 4 points and don't expect a relegation battle.

£8m has to be worth it, as others have said I wouldn't want to gamble on him in the summer "for free" as he could go to just about any club he wants and I doubt we would be the best option available to him. Problem is though will the board sanction a move for him if a bidding war begins...I doubt it very much.

I don't think we will be the best option he has.

However you could argue they could sell us to him, if the investment of the summer is going to be backed up. Is it though? Not a single person can answer that question. We are unquestionably moving in the right direction looking from the outside. The investment in infrastructure and youth set up is there, the investment in the squad is there, the quality of player bought is high end potential with Mitro, Mbemba, Gini (I'm not including Thauvin yet as he's been gash and a bit of fairy), the football is good and watchable as a result of that investment. If you look around us at our rivals down the bottom, we look one of the better bets.

The key is simple - will any club pay what QPR wants. I could see a Chelsea, Liverpool or one of the other big clubs springing a surprise. After that we are dead in the water. Austin will move if a PL club comes calling in Jan regardless who they are. Why? Because he will insist on a relegation release clause, will back himself to fire the required goals to stay in the league and most of all will re-ignite his flailing international chances. If he blasts 10-15 goals in the 2nd half of the season he will have a chance. Any player is going to grab at that.

Relegation release clause, potential money spinner for him there.

Fact is, he won't get on that plane for Euro 2016 playing in the Championship.

How would that help if he pre-signed with a club who went on to get relegated? Their contract would begin following the relegation. Plus he'll get a relegation clause off half the league

Just doesn't make sense to me for any player to sign a pre agreement in Jan with so many options and variables ahead, unless of course they're nailed on for safety.

  17. You should just give Adam Armstrong a chance instead

I thought we were chatting about him just signing for them in January, my bad.

He can't sign a pre-contract with any English team anyhow.

My logic was he could sign for them in Jan (like Remy did with QPR) and have a relegation release clause inserted.

I don't think we are in that position, however If we win a few games and come jan are sitting in and around mid table, which im fairly certain we will id definitely do so.
