Counting gmes at Wembley is akin to rugby fans claiming the attendances t Wembleynfinals proving Hull is a rugby town. Siilarvwth claiming away gmescas our highest crowds as the majority weren't there because we were playing.
If you are counting league and cup just Doncaster Rovers. But I seem to recall reading that Raich Carter's first seven away league games were all new record attendances for league games at those clubs. Obviously they have been overtaken by cup crowds.
a little bit left field, but anyone have any ides of what our top attendance has been at the KC, I seem to think the record attendance at the stadium was for a Test match in the Rugby League, although I could be completely wrong.
Dad had a car and I went with his dad and brother from East Hull. Masses of cyclists and pedestrians walking on the roads. Thought the game was played on Christmas Day though?( a Saturday ). Was a great game beating them 3-2. As Boxing Day fell on a Sunday we played them away the following Monday drawing 0-0. Rotherham were top and we were second and that together with Xmas and Carter mania drew the massive attendance. We caught them by the end of the season and were promoted as Champions. It was also Division Three North!
The thing about BP was that for years there was a large field next to it, known locally as Cleggies field, I lived down Hawthorn Ave then, which could have been developed although in later years a girls school was built on it. But previous to that the field was empty except for a couple of horses grazing, it was at the other side of the railway line and had access from Kempton Road, on Boothferry Road and Newington Street down Hawthorn Ave. But for me the real BP was destroyed with the building of the supermarket at the North Stand end although I suppose financially it was a plus for Hull City at the time.
Think it did a bit of predictive texting because I had previously written Division Three South in connection with Cardiff City. As we all know only one club has ever played in every division in the football league from Division 4 to Division one, the PL and Division 3 South and Division 3 North, Yes, it was Christmas Day. Which in those days was a full league programme. Seems strange now thatbyouncould play on Christmas Day but not on Boxing Day because it fell on a Sunday.Which made all those people getting there on foot all the more amazing. Looking how many people have to leave early so they won't be held up getting home for their tea nowadays would they have been allowed to spend half of Christmas Day walking to Boothferry Park and back? Would they have wanted to as we are all far lazier nowadays.
