January will be interesting. I don't imagine we'll spend much, if anything at all. Obviously you can always strengthen, but other than a bit of competition for Robbo at lb/lwb not sure which positions are screaming out for being strengthened.

Well Arsenal bring young players through and we don't as a matter of principle. So...

Don't see Arsenal being in the hunt at all. However, Josh Windass looks to have some ability and worth a punt of say £500k plus add ons. Sign him in Jan and leave him @ Accrington for the season. He needs to play.

But as with Vardy -& Clucas to name but 2,, gems can be found in the lower leagues.

The lad obviously has potential, but I doubt we'd be interested unless we get an injury or one of our midfielders leave. He's more associated with Bradford than he is Hull (despite his Dad, he supports the Bantams and has stated he'd go there if he got the chance) so if we didn't pick him up he'd no doubt go to another Yorkshire club.

Well he's not going to join Bradford to progress in his career! Maybe at the end of his career, but certainly not now!

He currently plays in League 2, he'd walk into most League 1 sides and he's got youth on his side. Look at Clucas' career so far, I'd say he could do far worse in terms of progression.

No, he was born in Hull, but by the time he started supporting a club his Dad was playing for the Bantams, that's who he went to watch so that's who he follows. Makes sense. I think he keeps tabs on our results though.

My point being, if he's being linked with us & Arsenal at over £1m then Bradford aren't even in the conversation! I also can't believe Portsmouth were mentioned in one of those links!

I'm not saying Bradford are actually interested, obviously because we are bigger clubs we get mentioned in the media, it doesn't mean there won't be other clubs looking at him. If neither one of us makes a bid then he'll go somewhere where he feels most comfortable.

When do you think someone from our academy next start a league match? How many years?

Over signing anyone, the key, for me, is hanging onto Dawson: losing him in January would be massive.

However, I’d like to see us on the offensive in January in terms of recruitment. Thinking back to our last promotion campaign, Cardiff sealed the title in Jan by signing Campbell.

So, perhaps, if we’re still up there and with the financial incentives that promotion can bring, could we sign that sort of striker. A striker who can add those important goals near season end? Could we push the boat out and go for someone like Rhodes even?

Without getting smug and way ahead of ourselves, there is an argument to be said for doing some of our summer signings in January. As a Championship club perhaps we could sign someone like Rhodes far cheaper in this division, than when we have the massive TV pot (if we win promotion) in the summer.

Without upsetting the balance, I want to see us forward thinking and with retention and an addition or two, it is possible that we could gain promotion with a squad that wouldn’t need that much further attention to make us viable in the top tier.

Not sure we need a third choice goalkeeper this season, we already have Watson. The other two are doing alright don't you think?

Agree about hanging on to Dawson.

We have Abel and Chuba who are scoring well. We have Diomande to come in who we haven't even seen play yet. If our players' form keeps up, then why would we spend an absolute fortune getting Rhodes? Why not save the money for the following Summer? Cardiff weren't really scoring many goals, hence why they went in for a striker. Our squad is scoring freely and has kept 5 clean sheets. Anybody that comes in is going to struggle to break into this team, so why waste the money?

Who knows? I would imagine it could easily take 10 years before we see an academy player come through, but at least the foundations have been laid. It's one thing I can't even nearly criticise the Allams for.

What I do know is, until Steve Bruce came here and employed Pennock, we we're ****ing abysmal in that department. Patience is needed.

Wenger said it would take 10 years at Arsenal. He's been there a lot longer than that and how many have really come through? And they've had the pick of Europe and pay miles more than most.
