So, does Kieran Gibbs' goal today put him ahead of Ryan Bertrand in Hodgson's mind? It honestly wouldn't surprise me.

Nor me. Hodgson's rare surprises are always bad ones, in my opinion.

For example, why doesn't he try NOT playing Rooney. He's in hopeless form, by England standards, and frankly I think Hodgson needs to start planning for a time when Rooney isn't around.

Absolutely. These are friendlies in any case. It's not a risk Roy! Play Vardy as the central striker. We know he can play in any of the front 3, but he is more effective in the middle and is on absolute fire. Kane is back on form too so I don't think we'll see Vardy in his most effective position unfortunately. But if Rooney is picked ahead of those two...

How on earth Costa is in the Spanish squad ahead of Aduriz is beyond belief!!!! Looking forward to watching the game on Friday in a bar in Esporles. Would have enjoyed it more with a few more Athletic Bilbao players.

Stekelenburg has talked to the Dutch football media, telling them he wants to commit to Southampton. I wonder if we're looking at a permanent transfer at the end of the season: http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/southampton-star-commits-to-the-club-wants-to-be-the-best

Saints would have two very high calibre goalkeepers. Possibly the strongest pairing ever at the club. Better overall than Niemi and Jones.

It would be fantastic and a few people post that he wouldn't want to be back up at his age. I disagree. I think he would be happy to battle Fraser for top spot and happily take cup fixtures if not first choice. He seems happy and settled here; who wouldn't be? *cough* Dani *cough*

It would be fabulous to have two very good keepers.

If Maart would sign with us, I'd give him a guarantee of all cup games at least. Big fan of the beast, but MS has won me over big time. I can't even imagine having two top quality keeps on the books at the same time, seriously.

I don't think we've even come to terms with having a pacy no.10 yet.
