Been released by Swansea. Trial in view to a pay as you play? He'd fill an area we're far too light in. It would mean of course we couldn't bring a free agent cb in but if there was any out there surely we would have pounced by now?
That's why inviting him to train with us would let Sam see what he had left. I don't think Ola is remotely similar.
Time to work with him, get a look at him and see if getting him to fitness is possible. See what Sam's sports science can do. I'd invite him to train with us. He's off the pay role. It would be a harmless venture.
Not happy about James Collins like. Decent Defender but can't play football to save his life. His average pass distance last season was 27m and a pass success average of 67%. To put that in perspective John O'Shea's last season was 19 meters and 81%. I just can't see how he can help balance out defence and attack in any way. #longballdefender
Or to look at it another way Tomkins get the ball, on average, 18.09 meters from the goal (27 * 0.67) whereas O'Shea only gets it 15.39m (19 * 0.81), Moneyball tells me you need to get Tomkins in and have him passing 35 times more than O'Shea does in a match and instead of conceding a goal you'll be scoring!!! (your pitch is apparently 105m long). I should so get a job in football, this stuff is easy.
But you got the wrong player mate. Here's all three compared. O'Shea's distribution trounces both and O'Shea is nowt special. Btw. O'Shea averages more, shorter and more accurate passes in a game than the other two. http://www.squawka.com/comparison-m...eptions/clearances/blocks/defensive_errors#90
