Renting. Only looking for a room but is so stressful and get so many timewasters Also using spareroom is a nightmare as you have to upgrade your account to access new adverts, can't really afford to be spending money on websites when saving for a deposit.
If you're looking in Southampton. Avoid any that John Ready is the landlord of. He owns several properties in Southampton. I've recently moved out of a place that he rents out. He sounds really nice and helpful when you speak to him at the start, but then as soon as you're in, it's virtually impossible to get hold of him if you need to. Including when it comes to getting your deposit back! I used spare room too, I didn't upgrade my account and got on ok without the option to view the earlybird properties.

I heard Yoshi chucks loads of veg out on a weekly basis, and refuses to buy anything but the most perfectly shaped and clean veg. Cedric, however, keeps right on top of it, making soups etc. when veg is starting to turn. He could also keep That's Life in episodes for the next decade with some of the funny-shaped veg he buys.
haha amazing! I'm going to have to tell my old housemates that. He's becoming infamous. Yeah you really don't need it. I payed for it briefly a couple of years ago and it maybe gave me a few more options to look at, but that's it. I found a house using spareroom but not while i had an upgraded account
Me too - all veg comes in a local organic box, delivered to the door. Can't emphasise enough how much nicer that tastes. Not sure what I'd spend in a supermarket, but £30 a month through a local scheme for that seems reasonable to me. Misshaped galore in there, and all the more tasty for it. I use the local butcher too. Bakery is a bit harder for me to avoid from supermarkets, due to the bread smells they pump out, but I do make a couple of loaves myself on most weekends - good for toast, though never soft enough for sandwiches. Thing is, I know I'm not representative of portions of the population for whom supermarket boycotting is a luxury, and there's the problem. What power do those members of society with four kids, no job etc. do? They probably make up the majority of the supermarket's target market.

Cheers flt Not exactly leaving home, more been chucked out by the ex Never lived in private before, was in hostels as a young adult and since been in a council property. Now I've gotta get used to paying same amount of rent for just a room in a shared house rather than a flat - infact probably more! all fun and games eh!
The prices for 1 bedroom flats, as a single person not on a big wage, are extorionate. There's just no way I could afford to live in one. Even living in shared accomodation with just a bedroom and a shared everything else is expensive! Saving up a deposit is not an easy game. I've basically decided that I'd rather go on holidays than save up for a house. Can't save up for both. So I went to Morocco for a week in March and have recently spent 3 weeks in Tanzania. As i get older my priorities might change, but for now I'm spending my money on experiences.
Agree with that, this is why I think the minimum wage is too low for the cost of living. LIke you say it's virtually impossible to have a flat on your own. Even a room can be a struggle. Like I said above looking around this 'room' will cost me more in rent than my old 2bed flat with the council did. Not sure the disparity should be that big really, I moved out of parents house at 16 (almost 10yrs ago) Hard to imagine people being able to do that now.
