But why did it close and what makes Burger King think that location will work any better for them?

Try some proper cider, Peter. Not the ****e normally sold in pub chains.

And motorway service places. Of course here it is considered a threat to civilisation and life as we know it. In Europe they realise that coaches are full of people who might enjoy a drink with a meal and cars have passengers who would as well. In this country the anti alcohol fanatics think that people would drive to a motorway service in order to get and then veer all over the motorway. No doubt coach drivers would as well
Of course in Europe you can get a meal in a motorway service area worth having a drink with, unlike this country.

Probably the fact they they're not trying to sell dog food to people.

I know it's not much of an improvement and Burger King make their chips out of wallpaper paste, but anything's better than KFC.

I think a certain someone on here would disagree with you there.

Tickles isn't a person, he's actually just a well trained Labrador.

I'd heard that was the case, I also heard that he'd been bred in a laboratory just outside of Wetwang and that he is the first dog in the entire world to have opposable thumbs.

Not sure if the last bit is true though.

It's massive and has longish opening hours, so I assume it's quite busy.

Government owned services (which is most of them) are not allowed alcohol, but there's nothing to stop a privately owned one for applying for a license, though I'm not sure there are any other than the M40 one. Loads of petrol stations that are just off motorways sell alcohol though, Clews at Goole has a pub next door and I often used to pop into South Cave services for a bottle of wine.

Burger King is the last resort for me. However selling booze would actually help the food there go down better. <laugh>

Not really comparable to the situation elsewhere in Europe though.

Petrol station off licences selling alcohol and a solitary Wetherspoons is hardly the samevas being able to have a drink with a decent meal whilst travelling on the motorways in .Europe. I would be quite happy just to be able to have the standard of meals I have had in European motorway service areas.

The KFC's here are pretty good -- at least the chicken itself, not so much the 'sides'; certainly good value for money. Maybe that's because we're just a few miles from Kentucky. We go there every few weeks to get our cigs, as they are MUCH cheaper there than here in Ohio (tax!).
We go occasionally to BK because my wife tells me she likes a Whopper ... at least that's what I think she means.
