I don't even peel it, just wash it. Why does the stalk need to be peeled.

I don't think it has to. It's just that the outside is tougher than the inside. It's probably the good part!

Good girl! My wife makes me peel them and I tell her the goodness is in that first layer. When she's not looking I just scrub them.

*she also makes me take the core out of a parsnip! I use that for the stock for gravy though*

I agree, Godders. Except it's a fine line between love and hate and it's no fun when it turns and they decide to rip you off from everything you've worked towards for near as damn it 40 years.
Yes, I'm a cynical bastard, but I think life has made me that way. I'm happy for others, but I'll never let anyone get that close to me again.

Everyone to their own, but I made the same decision as you, Dave. Was married happily (I thought) for 15 years when I was left with a toddler and dropped into depression....then thought, sod it....no one is going to change me and make me miserable and no one will get that chance again. Luckily, I am happy alone, but with friends. In contrast, a friend is now on her 6th partner because she would rather be treated like **** than be alone. Luckily, her present husband is the best of the bunch. I think people who can live alone are the luckiest...a good partner is then a cherry on the cake, but not the be all and end all. The only person you can guarantee to spend your life with is yourself.

Going to watch it on catch up now - something which needs to be shown to everyone until it sinks in. Off to the sleep-out thing on Thursday and imagining how it could help all those hungry and homeless people ......... :emoticon-0121-angry

I buy misshapen veg if it's cheaper - never bothered me. But, as you say, they never discount it and they could .........

Absolutely, Fran! And that's what I've decided too - it's not worth giving your life to someone only to see it screwed up and flung back in your face. I'm lucky to have some great friends who have been amazingly supportive (and they're all Saints fans too), plus my children have "come back" to me (I "lost" them due to their dislike of my ex) which has made me a much happier person.
I'm just looking to get a place of my own and start living again - just want to forget the last 12 - 18 months.

Independence is where it's at - I'm very happy for those who can genuinely find love and be content, but there's an awful lot of people out there who seem to be struggling. I wonder if it's the pace and way of life these days or was it just that previous generations just grinned and bore it?

I got on well with my mothers-in-law - still would, probably, if I were allowed!

Bad luck with the father-in-law though ............. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

This is the way to go if we can - I'm certainly planning on doing that (if I can afford it) when I finally get settled .......
