Yes, but the buying public have been carefully programmed over the decades to want the perfect shape. Even at the expense of flavour. You go to a corner veg shop and you'll see some really misshapen stuff. Of course, there's nothing wrong with it.

There is a charity called Fair Share who take some of the unwanted foods, but they say they only get 2% of food that is "in date" and have set themselves a target of 25%. Here is an organisation with the infrastructure in place to stop the supermarkets being wasteful yeti they're hardly touched in the big scheme.

Couldn't tell you the last time we bought meat from a supermarket, and the veg we buy is mostly in a veg box delivered each week. We are now trying to get all or at least most of our bread from the local Baker.

He's not going to be a dickhead in it is he????

PS. My wife thought that a footballer in it may excite me into liking it.

We've just dug up our carrots and frozen them. Don't think the supermarket would have taken any of them but they taste better despite their weirdness. There's something oddly satisfying about pulling up a carrot and seeing what's under all the greenery - sad I know.

The strange think is that in the shops we automatically go for the best looking veg but at the end of the day it really doesn't matter what it looks like because 9/10 times we will be cutting it up!

Didn't watch the programme and freely admit to being a person who does what they like, but I have been more aware of waste since they gave me a separate food waste bin. It mostly consists of tea bags in my house :), but I was aware that I was chucking out the outer leaves of sprouts, so yesterday I cut off the stalks but made no attempt to remove the outer leaves. Tasted just the same so I shall be doing that from now on. No, I don't expect a medal.:)

This is what retirement's about. I had to phone to make an appointment, did that....then realised that was all I had to do today :) Think I'll have another cup of tea and get dressed....all one round of excitement. I love it.

The Cadbury shop in Gunwharf used to sell mishaped chocolates at a discount, was always my favourite part of the day when shopping as a kid. Plus the fact Gunwharf is a much nicer place to go than West Quay.

West Quay can never be as attractive as Gunwharf because of location, but I notice they have started on the extension to West Quay. Going to contain a lot of restaurants....a venue like that is needed in a city like Southampton.

I would have been the ripe old age of 8 when it opened then. I still enjoy the cadbury shop if I ever go, not that I do any more really.

Did you know you can eat the broccoli stalk if you peel it? Was told that by a Sainsbury's worker when I was trying to find a piece with a small stalk. Tastes fine mixed in with everything else.

You're never too old for chocolate. In fact I think chocolate shops get even more appealing :D

Nothing odd about it. Tastes better and it is more satisfying growing your own.
