I can't dispute what you say Finglas but what you're saying is that ....... We have Phillips, Chery, Gladwin, Faurlin, Fer, Doughty, Gobern, Henry, Luongo, Hoilett, Tozser, Sandro, Diakite, Comley and Sutherland.

Not you personally Fin... but ... We lack a midfield? How many other Championship clubs would like to have to choose from that?

Question - Where will we finish, mk2 ?
Without a manager appointed full term?
Answer - How long is a piece of string?
    Hoping - Mid table. ( Warnock )
Gut feeling - Mid to relegation zone, especially if it's one of Les Ferdinand cronies.

Downgrading to sixth (and win again at Wembley). Catching Birmingham etc. shouldn't be a problem if the new manager, Colin or Another, gets us playing to the potential that this squad has.

None of those is the kind of playmaking No10 that Fingy is meaning (I think Fingy?).
Faurlin, if he stays fit, will improve things and should have been given more game time by Ramsey, but whilst he's a very good holding player, he's not the creative spark that we're missing imo.

I had high hopes that Chery might have been that player for us, but we've only seen glimpses.

And me. I think he's the nearest that we have and could maybe do the job. He seemed to get worse and worse under Ramsey. Possibly that incident when he was substituted was to blame?
Fer should add class in that area, but I wouldn't describe him as a "playmaker" either.

Agree with you nines that on paper we have a great set of midfielders to choose from, as per your list. Most of the clubs in this division would be envious of our choice.

The problem is, for some reason, they are not performing as a unit.

Col rightly points that we lack a Taarabt type player there too. Fer potentially is that player but at the moment, he is not back on form yet due to his injury. Hopefully that changes soon.

How many Championship teams have currently got a Taarabt type player?

Fer is the No 10.....when he first came he was played out of position on the wing then for 3 games he was outstanding and then got cruciate or whatever. Still nowhere near his best but must play behind striker and hopefully fitness and ability will return......

Potentially, play offs if NW in charge........

Not sure if previously mentioned Ravel Morrison in January talk is still in play? Despite his numerous personal issues, he proved to be a very savvy loan for us and helped enormously in the run-in to promotion last time around. Although not involved in the playoff matches, his play & goals made the difference in getting us into the mix when Charlie was out injured. Perhaps a strict disciplinarian like Warnock could help him to knuckle down and get the best out of him as he is without doubt a very gifted and skilled player, in the mold of Taarabt.

Nothing like as good though as Adel when he was fit. And while Adel needs a lot of motivating RM has history that suggests he needs far more than just motivation. Still possibly he's a reformed character now aca Joey.

Cheers Nines. Had almost forgot about that :emoticon-0100-smile

Still stand by this. Play off maximum of what we could get.

This was pretty much spot on... cough cough :emoticon-0126-nerd:

"But we still resemble the side who got relegated in 1996. Strong going forward, well dodgy defensively. We had the likes of Sinclair, Impey, Gavin Peacock and John Spencer banging them in. But we couldn't defend to save our life. Even the coaching situation is similar. An untried head coach/manager in Stewart Houston, now we have the same in Ramsey. We missed out that time and we can miss out again. So won't put my hopes on more than the play off max for now."

For all those casually saying 'we always said mid table'.

No you didn't. We mostly thought play offs or better with the squad we had after the last window closed.

I didn't vote in the original vote but I said back in November, when we were 13th that such a position flattered us and I expected us to finish between 16th and 21st but not relegated. We are currently 17th.

Sadly my 7th to 15th vote could be about right if we can win a couple more games this season<doh>
