You aren't wrong and nor am I about Cedric being a better option over Yoshida at right back. Why? Because no one can prove what would have happened if Cedric started instead. It is possible to win games without the perfect team selection and I still believe Cedric is always a better choice over Yoshida at right back. I'd like to make it clear than VVD won 11 aerials in the game and Fonte won 8. Many here say Yoshida was in the side for his height and generally gets picked over Cedric for his height. That's a real interesting one isn't it. Yoshida won 0 aerials against Sunderland, zero. Sunderland isn't a side your left and right back need to be good in the air against. That's why it was and remains an odd selection for me. Perhaps the reality here is that Cedric was actually being rested (put on the bench, only to be used if trailing in the second half or if Yoshida got injured). Yoshida did do well and I do like him. He comes across as a guy trying his best. But I'm interested in the team performing at their best, not individuals. I just rate Cedric higher as a right back. Hardly surprising. The guy is number one pick for Portugal as a right back. Yoshida's a centre back, doesn't have much pace, isn't great on the ball and can't cross the ball. He's decent enough as a back up option in those positions (right back, left back and of course centre back) but he is certainly not good enough to be a starter over Cedric.
Yoshida didn't lose any aerial challenges, either. Perhaps there is a reason why they opted not to play the ball in the air.
You are grasping at straws completely. That really is a pathetic response indeed. Right backs don't tend to make many aerial challenges buddy. That's a fact of football. Not many teams play long balls either anymore other than to the centre forward. Hence our CB's winning tons of aerials. Of the 20 right backs to start this week they won 27 aerials between them. 8 were from Sagna against City, 4 were Walker, 4 were Craig Dawson. That means 11 aerials won by the other 17 right backs. Fact is it appears Yoshida only played to give Cedric a rest. Anyone saying it's because Yoshida is better in the air is talking nonsense. Your best argument is that it's because Koeman thinks Yoshida was a better right back to face Sunderland. That's it. I'm out. Continue to lie to yourself.
Tintin please, as Channonfidder suggests, use less provocative language. You are entitled to your opinion but please don't ram it down everyone's throat. Thank you.
TinTin, I want to make some points to you and if you don't mind, could you please indulge me with a reply to the questions. 1. I don't think a single person here thinks Maya is a better fullback than Cedric - why do you keep thinking some do? 2. Some people (I think I was the first) offered the height point as a maybe, not a fact. It was a suggestion as to why Ron made that selection. No question for you here, just trying to point out that it MAY have been his reason (not ours). 3. Why do we have a Premier League squad of 25 players? Cedric is our most mobile RB, maybe even more mobile than Ryan (I said MAYBE) and it is possible that Ron sees Cedric having some burn out as he expels serious energy when he plays an attacking game. He hasn't even played a dozen premier league games and Ron may feel he is still finding the pace of the Premier league game. I remember his first game against Vitesse and I couldn't believe ho many times he was the furthest player forward and on the opponents byline. Would he be able to do that for 40 plus games in a new league? 3. With the above in mind, is it possible Ron felt Cedric needed a break and believed that our team had enough to beat Sunderland without him? Again a suggestion, not a fact. Whether you or I felt he needed a break is irrelevant. He could be what the my call "red zoning" - again I don't have access to our physiological info and I don't know if you do either. 4. I don't think its right in the modern day to say one can play your best team in every game and that is why we have big squads. With this in mind, Would you play your strongest team against the strongest opposition or against the weaker opposition? My final point is to ask if you can start posting your pints and debates without being abusive? It doesn't take much to show a little politeness. If you've noticed I quite often have some spikey conversations on here, often getting heated, but I don't think you'll find those debates, no matter how heated get abusive to other posters (I've called some referees names though - not posters). Nearly all your posts seem angry. Manners maketh a man. (Or woman)
I can see why tintin got annoyed to be honest, he raised some fair points and got told to "stop being negative". In actual fact he was just discussing pretty much the only talking point in a positive performance
Osvaldoramo, it is the way he shouts his message and anyone putting a suggestion the other way is either , thick, stupid, pathetic, a clown or an idiot that I object to. I am just hoping he can allow some people to counter/discuss without ramming his view, and I quote, "as fact" each time. People often write that they are making a suggestion or trying to understand what the coach has done. I am all for healthy debate (you may have noticed that I can be as awkward or terrier like as the next, but at least let's have Mr Angry calm down a bit. I can have a ruck without abusing posters. TinTin makes some very astute footballing points and it would just be good to be able to discuss, counter or debate those sometimes without the obvious anger.
I'm thinking of using superglue on my eyeballs....took me ages to find the one that had rolled under the fridge.
I dn't think there's a single person on here that thinks Yoshida is a better right back than Cedric, so it's a pretty circular discussion. EDIT: Ah I see FLT has said precisely same. Ignore this then!
Poor Yoshida. You can see why Ronald doesn't risk the youngsters when there's this reaction to playing Yoshida.
For example, I am a single person, always have been, and I think Cedric is a better left back than Maya! Maya is a Central Defender being used as utility stop gap wherever he is required. Anyone that thinks that Maya is a better right back than Cedric is probably misinformed, misguided or just plain stupid and I don't ever recall anyone actually saying so anyway.
Yoshida is not important here. The criticism is not aimed at Yoshida personally; the criticism is aimed at playing a center back on a full back position. It just happened to be Yoshida that was deployed out of position. I would have been the same reaction had it been Fonte, Van Dijk, Kelvin Davis or any other player. So those who fear that the criticism is aimed personally to Yoshida are way of the mark. Yoshida is a great servant to the club. It's not his fault that the manager picks him to play a position he's doesn't excel in.
Don't think anyone on here is really attacking Yoshida...most are joking, but some on twitter made it personal as if we were bound to lose solely because he was playing at RB. Not his preference, but I bet he's glad to get as much game time as he gets when you consider he is really back up to Fonte and Virgil.
