Three sitters, at least one woodwork and a couple that went the right side of the post for Villa. It was a siege.

Two woodwork I thought - Fernando (or inho) and Kompany at the death. Still, hitting the woodwork is inaccurate finishing from the attacking side rather than luck for the defenders imo. Although I guess it is lucky for Villa that Aguero was out.

Villa did pretty well defensively considering their respective positions in the table.

Not all that lucky tbh. City had three shots on target, none of which really troubled Guzan.

The only thing really lucky for Villa was how bad City's finishing was.

When other teams fail to win, they were unlucky. Thems the rules Swarbs.

Fortunate rather than lucky. They will have set out not to conceded after all, if they pulled it off it's not really luck it's job done.

It's a bit like calling a hole in one luck. If you're aiming at the hole and it went in then you've pulled it off I reckon.

Anyway, I'm rambling on a bit.

A good weekend for us I say, yay. <ok>

Didn't know Liverpool were playing.

The Dippers were hoping for an Arsenal v Spurs draw as it would take them 2 points closer to both of them. Deluded muppets.

Shame about the Arsenal equaliser. Spurs looked comfortable and the goal came from nothing. Having said that, would have taken that result before the game. Dare say most gooners would have as well considering the mid-week mauling <whistle>

When a team is battered but somehow the ball stays out of the net then I call it lucky as I call it as I see it. I'm not into letting club bias cloud my judgement. I don't see the point, it's childish and ultimately you end up looking stupid.

You could literally copy and paste the Liverpool fan comments from Brendan's first loss to their match thread today. Great performance, unlucky to lose, just needed to be more clinical in front of goal. Been hearing the same thing with every manager for 20 years <whistle>

Villas intentions were to keep a clean sheet. Villa succeeded, City failed. How they got there is irrelevant to be honest, City would have taken 0 shots and an OG in the 98th minute over 40 shots and zero goals.

I don't disagree with that at all. But saying Villa weren't lucky to escape with a point is like saying Chelsea weren't lucky in the 2012 CL final. Anyway, it worked out well for us.

We have a run of winnable games coming up so should firm up a top 4 spot going into the new year when we should look to try and kick on.

Surely how they got there is relevant for a football forum?

Expected like most, villa to get thrashed. They put in a hell of a shift and picked up the unlikeliest point of the weekend. I say fair play to then.

And yes, I am hoping we can have a similar run like last season through November and December.

Aye, that's pretty much what I was aiming at.

A team as poor as Villa at the moment will always need a bit of luck to beat a team like City.

But it's not like they were naive and just waiting for City to come onto them - they defended well, had a solid game plan, and kept the number of clear cut chances City had down to three or four.

City will always make chances against sides lower down the division, so luck always comes into it. But Villa's approach and defence limited the amount of chances they got, thus limiting the amount of luck they needed to get a point.
