Just caught a replay of the Arctic Fire victory, was taken again by Monksland in it more so than the Fire himself. Will Monklsand be going world hurdle route again this season?

You are not far down the road from me but that must have been one of the most ill-advised bets of the weekend: taking a view on the North London derby and adding in dodgy Liverpool. Had a few texts from a Spurs fan friend about game they should have won already.

Prior to this season, Meade was toying with fences. I dont know the final decision. Basically what you need to know about Monksland is that he is very fragile and therefore incredibly difficult to train. Meade says thankfully he had actually had a problem-free summer. However, last season although he got him to the world hurdle, he'd had lots of little problems and as we know, ran like a drain on the day.

He is a top class Grade 1 performer but his fitness is always a gamble. Dont bother antepost- if he runs at Cheltenham make sure you understand what kind of prep Meade has been able to give him and back him on the day.

Would have loved to see him go over fences but may be late in the day now.

He has a fair bit of pace- should they throw caution to the wind and run him in a Champion Hurdle and see if they can pick up prize money?

Good to see Coneygree do that to a stellar 3 horse field. Should give Don Poli a lovely toe round to the last anyway!

He's definitely fragile. I remember backing him when he beat Zaidpour at Leopardstown back in '12 I think it was and looked like he had a hell of a future but I think that was just his 4th run since today which is a real shame. He does look like he could make a chaser, he is actually quite similar to Apache Stronghold I think but I was just curious as to his plans for this season and what the likely targets were.

If he got a real good pace over 2 miles he might be able to pick up some money but I'm not so sure he could compete with some of the best over 16 furlongs to be fair.

    ATR Meade Stable Tour:

A 149-rated hurdler, he is a lightly-raced but talented performer that has won three times at Grade 2 level over hurdles. He returned from two years off last season and showed himself to be close to his best, being beaten a short-head in the Grade 2 Galmoy Hurdle at Gowran Park.

“Touch wood, he’s been very good so far. He’s been doing a lot of swimming as much as anything else and to be fair, he’s more forward now than he was this time last year. I don’t know whether we are going to jump fences with him this season or not, my first priority has just been to get him up to race fitness without hitting any glitches, as he is quite a fragile horse. He comes from a point-to-point background, so there is a temptation to send him chasing, but given his issues it might be easier on him to stay over hurdles. We’ll probably give him a spin over hurdles and make a decision after that.”

Excellent TC <cheers> sounds hopeful then that he might jump a fence, either way, I hope he maintains fitness for the next few year and can leave the game on good terms with himself when the day comes<ok>

You are right. It is dead easy after timing on football – only have to wait 90 minutes. No reply from my Liverpool fan brother yet curiously...

If you take Southfield Theatre as a form guide when Coneygree gets to the last Don Poli will be at the second last. Coneygree was superb today. I just hope Mullins let's Vautour line up in the big un. Some clash that would be.
